True, they don't seem to drop below $4k too often.

ZXR1100 (1st year model and low milage, personal bike of the local dealer) DL1000 (02 freinds bike whom i'd trust with my life) Moto Guzzi ( yet to be found in price range) I still need to make the 4 hour ride up to test out the DL but can't do it for another week or so as weekends book up fast for us.I think you'll enjoy the Zrex more.
What are your impressions of the Zrex, Rotard? If I were to get another street bike I think I would be leaning towards an FZ1 due to the fairing, styling, and comfort. The Zrex is direct competition for the FZ1, but it's still got carbs and a bikini fairing.

It's very comfortable, is easy to supercharge, fun, etc. It looks like an old Eddie Lawson GPz.
The ZRX1200 is pipes and jets away from 130whp. It'll womp on the FZ1 down low. The ZRX is and will feel heavier handling. Both will get outperformed by a modern sportbike. The ZRX has a lot more soul than the FZ1.
I was going to suggest a vstrom before I saw that your friend had one for sale.
go here if you want to learn all about throwing away fairings: http://www.customfighters.com
Note of warning, don't look at that site at work.
I have an 01 GSXR-1000 I am looking for $3k for. Clean WI title, new Dunlop Q2s, new brakes, Full Yoshimura exhaust, Power Commander, Bi-Xenon HIDs, Custom urban camo paint, all maintenance done.

For the ST4, the following:
How many rockers have been replaced? Ducati had a series of bad ones, then sent more bad ones out to dealer to replace the bad ones. Even better, they sent even more bad ones out to the replace those that had already been replaced.
When where the valves last checked?
Personally check the headlight at the connecter/mount, they melt.
Carefully inspect the mirrors, they crack.
That neutral light is only an Italian suggestion, it has little to nothing to do with the transmission's actual gear.
Make sure it has the bags, they are very, very handy.
Make sure it has the toolkit, there is a socket in there you need for plug changes.
Do you like that fairing? You had better because an unreasonable amount of it needs to come off for oil changes.
Other than that, they are great bikes.
I bought the ST4! Pure simple lines of the fairing are nice on the eye's. Bike has a stack of service records 2 inches thick every service was done at a well respected dealer whom i happen to know the owner and a few other people there. has both side bags but no top rear bag. The reason it's been sitting the owner has 3 other Ducati.. I couldn't wait so i called my buddy and said lets go look at it.
That CB1000 "Big One" is a great big beast of a bike, and one that doesn't pop up often. I'd be all over that...
