I may have an '06 Silverado (2wd, crew cab, V6, auto) fall into my lap. What can I do to make it cool, in any sense of the word?

For that matter, is there anything uncool I can do - like protective floormats and seat covers and such? I'd like to use the thing as a work truck, but keep it decent looking for a while down the road. Nice, old pickup trucks get really hard to find, and I wouldn't mind having one 10-20 years from now.

Okay, not the temperature sense of the word.

Go.

It's a heck of a score if it does what I need it to do.

I can't find specs for these things. Can anybody tell me how long the bed is on the crew cab?

Depends. They had 8' beds and 6' beds.

Lower it and plop on some decent wheels. Don't slam it. I wouldn't bother with too much else. Maybe de-badge it if they are glued on emblems and garnish.

I can't believe it's been more than four hours now and nobody has reflexively yelled, "LS1!!"

My recipe for just about any fullsize 2wd truck: 3"/4" drop, 18" wheels, hard tonneau cover, K&N FIPK, full exhaust, tranny cooler.

You just missed out on cash for clunkers, it was this deviously simple plan to socialize automobile ownership.

is it a 5.3 or 6.0 with a reflash and a few things it would be quick for a truck

If it's 2wd and a crew cab it can have the 4.8 or 5.3L. 6.0L were only in the 1500HD's or 2500. If it's a 1500 2WD CC, than the bed is 5'8" long. Grab the VIN and check the 8th digit to tell us which engine it has.

My 06 CC 4.8 gets 23-24mpg unloaded at 70+mph. gets 17-18mpg towing 4k lb open trailer/car and gets anout 19-20 just putzin around. If I had the extra cash I would get longtube headers, magnaflow catback, computer reflash, 2-4" drop, rear sway bar and a better radio. I already have the external trans cooler, DERALE trans pan, K&N FIPK and external engine oil cooler. We bought it new in 2006 and are planning on 350k miles before replacement time.

He said in his post it was a V6.

It can'tbe a V6 crew cab. They don't exist. Extended cab with half doors that open backwards, yes. Crew cab with 4 normal doors, no. Get the VIN.

See, that's what I thought, too, but my dad (long story) swears it's a V6. I'll get the VIN - where can I decode it?

When I bought the Cobalt I was going to buy a V6 Extended WT1500. I think the Poster is confusing Extended with Crew where an extended cab might have two additional mini doors in the rear and the crew has two larger conventional type doors:

I thought Club Cab was the full 4 door

crew cab being the suicide's

and extended cab being a 2-door with flip forward seats?

Bobzilla

Options were: Reg cab, ext Cab and Crew Cab. Crew Cab has 4 full doors, all open like a tahoe with a full bendh that the bottom flips up, the back flips down to make a flat surface. Ext Cab has the half suicide doors and smaller bench that flips up against the bulkhead. Reg Cab only has two doors and no back seat.

Put your VIN up here... we can decode it for you. If the VIN starts with a "1" it cannot be a crew cab as all CC's came from canada.

I'm operating on hearsay since I've never seen the thing with my own eyes. Whatever, the configuration, it sounds like this is going to be too good a deal to pass up.

So, where can I start drooling over parts and accessories for these things?

Just about anywhere.... GMT800's are everywhere. If it's a V8, it's LSx based and they friggin rock. Add an external trans coller ASAP. Change the trans fluid and rear diff fluid.

Summit offers a ton of stuff, and you can find anything for it on eBay. Basically, start ANYWHERE. The parts for these trucks can be found anywhere you look. But if you turn it into a Lund Catalog showcase car, I will personally drive to find you and kick you in the nads.

Seeing as I used to work in new product development for Lund, I find this thread amusing. And no - I didn't pick the products.

Nope, the lead is used for the spikes mounted on the front of the boots.
