Since Round 1 of the Draft was last night, it seems like a good time to open the floodgates for 2024 trash talk.
You guys can make fun of Atlanta taking Penix all you want--I think it was an inspired pick. And I'm betting the Bears have found yet another Sacrificial Lamb QB to throw into the deep end of the pool too soon.
Lions pick was odd moving up 5 spots to select a CB they needed. Just not sure on needing to move up for it.
Da bears still gonna suck.
Clearly an offense heavy 1st rd. Given the supposedly new tackle rules upcoming I'm not surprised.

I don't follow the NFL much, but was watching "Get Up" while eating lunch earlier..........I can't believe the contract Atlanta gave to Cousins at his age and lack of postseason success and coming off an Achilles.

The league just likes to throw money at that guy. IIRC the Vikings made him one of the highest paid QB's when they picked him up from Washington. Amazes me what the talking heads are saying about the Falcons drafting Penix, to me that's just a good move. They are going to have a ton of dead money on the salary cap anyway once Cousins gets hurt/craps out, 36 in Kirk Cousins years ain't the same as 36 in Tom Brady years.
I dunno, man. Giving Kirk that boatload of cash says "win now" to me, but then you go and use one of the most precious quantities in the NFL, a top 10 draft pick, on his replacement? And it's Penix, a guy who very few people had mocked in the first round, much less the top 10? No doubting the guy's talent or will, he was an absolute warrior in the Natty. But he's torn the same ACL twice and had shoulder issues, too. They could have used that pick on Bowers, Odunze, or one of the tackles, someone that could actually contribute right now. And if they were that set on a QB, I know I'm biased, but JJ McCarthy was right there, almost 4 full years younger, similar physical talent, and no injury history. I don't get it. Especially for a guy that's going to sit for a couple of years.
In any case, the draft looked cool, too bad we couldn't get in. My son and I and a couple of friends got the NFL OnePass app, got our QR codes, thought we were all set. We parked at about 5:30 and got on a shuttle bus to head downtown when we got the notification that the event was at capacity and nobody else was being let in. I guess they had 275k people inside the draft area (which is huge). I bet there was at least another 100k outside hoping to get in. We wandered around downtown for a while and eventually found a bar, had dinner and watched the first few picks on their TV before heading home. It was still a fun night, but it sucked not to be able to get in and see all the displays and the stage and everything. But the folks I really felt bad for were all the out-of-town fans who traveled long distances only to be turned away. Hopefully they are able to stick around and go tonight and/or tomorrow. I think the NFL needs to do a better job of controlling how many people get codes. Obviously too many people gets to be a safety issue, but they need to do a better job of planning ahead so they aren't turning folks away 2 full hours before the draft even starts.
The penix choice is so weird, essentially everyone is gonna be annoyed no matter what, so unless the tampering thing makes cousins contract null, it's gonna be weird.
I do like Penix though and think he will do well whenever he gets to play where ever he plays

My wife read that it was the most attended draft ever. So thanks for helping set that record! Pretty cool.

Great for Cousins- but I really questioned Atlanta for doing that in the first place. He got a massive contract from Minnesota, and did.... not much. So his reward for being just above average was another super high contract. All of that nonsense made sense when they drafted Penix. Meaning they just want to invest in QB's and not much else.

Given Detroit's massive weakness is the defensive backfield, you need to do what you need to do to get the player you wanted. And it's not that they traded up to the top 20 to get him. And all they gave Dallas in return was a third round pick.
My Bears are coming! Great draft! My best friend is a long time season ticket holder. This year he won the lottery to be in the front row of the Bears fan section. Bears paid for airline tix, hotel, and threw in some personalized jersey for he and his wife. Right before they left, he found out he was going to bring the jersey up on stage to give to Goodell for the first pick. Absolutely crazy! All our friends are playing where's Waldo every time they show the Bears fan section.

Never really been a huge Cousins fan, he's basically "adequate".
The contract the Falcons gave him was absurd IMO
Glad the draft finally got underway. The dead space this time of year was driving me nuts with every network, channel, podcast and fanboi posting mock drafts. Rumors, trade up/down etc., some with Version 1-10. That is all speculation, just filling dead air space to keep the fanbois engaged.
I think Steelers GM Omar Khan did okay in getting most needed players. RT, C, WR but wonder about 4th pick, a LB with multiple past injuries. Shoulda gone with CB. It's still a game of chance if these players will pan out at all. I'm highly confident the first two will.

As a Lions fan, I'm very worried about your Bears. This division is going to be a bloodbath in the coming years. All four teams are looking legit.
My son and I went to the draft last night but it was full so we went at 8:00am today and were in. Waited in all the lines and finally made it to the second row. It was a supper fun time. Oh, I could not care less about football, but he likes the Vikings and JJ seems to fit what they have going on

I agree. I really like how the Lions have built their team. I think the only one I'm not as scared of is Minn. They seem to be in rebuild mode and I wonder how long Jefferson can cool his heels. Going to be a fun season

I don't know about all of you, but my FB feed is absolutely full of Chicago Bear stuff claiming they've already won the division based on the draft. We have a long way to go before preseason games...

Okay, so the first preseason weekend is in the books... No comments from the peanut gallery?
In reply to stroker :
Well obviously the Jags are going to be this season's Super Bowl winner. We crushed the defending champions.
I hate that the preseason is the way that it is.
Lions bubble players playing G Mens #1s and #2s just gets your bubble players hurt and now they are looking for back up QBs.

Based on how Sudfeld looked in that game, they probably should have been looking already.
I predict Jerruh Jones will waste another season pretending he's a GM.
