Fly Eagles Fly!!!!!!!!
When he took the job so quickly I wondered if he felt the QB play in Detriot wouldn't get them to the Super Bowl. Especially since the DC was also getting interviews. I am not a fan of the Lions but was really hoping they would/will get to the super bowl. Sort of gives Cleveland some hope if they make it one day. Anyways I am rooting for the Bills and Commanders. However if I was betting I would bet against them

He stayed last year because he thought Goff and Co were capable of winning. And the offense did play that way most of the season. What fell apart was most of the D and some of the O due to injuries. Then the offense had to take it up a notch just to get a week off.
The lack of D is what killed them against DC. Not the offense. Goff had to press hard because they got behind fast and it just got out of hand.
What I really wonder is if the style of play lead to some of those injuries.
Chiefs fan here. I had a measured, thoughtful post cataloguing my thoughts about this season and especially the MVP battle between Lamar and Josh Allen this year, but then I remembered this is supposed to be a trash talk thread, so instead:
BRING ON THE THREEPEAT!

Agreed. The defense was just a sieve later in the year when the injuries piled up. We gave up more than 30 points 3 times in December. Goff probably did feel like he had to press, especially since they fell behind early. In a lot of ways it felt like when we played Buffalo. Just constantly playing catchup. Still, he did not play well on Saturday. That doesn't mean I want to give up on him, but there's no two ways about it, he had a bad game.
I'm a bit mixed on Johnson. Obviously you can't argue with the results on the field while he's been the OC, but I do think he had a tendency to get a bit cute sometimes with the trick plays. The disastrous pass by Jamo on Saturday being a prime example. I do think the offense will be fine without him, Campbell is more involved in the play-calling than a lot of people think, and they still have guys like Gibbs, St. Brown, La Porta, Sewell, etc. And Goff is capable of being very good, as we've seen. He just picked a really bad day to have a bad game.
As for Ben, thanks for a couple of great years, but I sincerely hope you crash and burn in Chicago. Nothing personal.
I still can't believe the Lions lost. Oof. But the Commanders played a hell of a game and deserved that win! I hope they make it to the Super Bowl.
On the other side, I'm really rooting for the Bills to go all the way. They have been exciting to watch and have proven they can beat the Chiefs handily. I dig what they are doing up there. Plus, they have never won one, so it would be cool to see them get theirs.

With the bears ownership, he'll get three years- just like all of them. They won't get a decent line, and ruin Willam's career, draft another qb. And Ben will get fired when he somehow can't get a top pick play well behind a sive of an offensive line. I don't understand why the bears ownership are following decades of Lions failures.

Ben is like McVay with aggressive play calling but not from that tree. The rams have very lax practices and most starters do not compete in the preseason, however they seem to have injury problems as well. I can't imagine Dan scaling back on his aggressiveness to avoid injuries.
I did find it interesting the Jayden Daniels uses VR sped up to train his mind to make better and quicker decisions. It's amazing how well he is doing.
Sounds like the Lions will get dismantled. Both coordinators going, LB coach with Glenn to become DC and QB coach with either to become OC.

Well that's too bad. Looking from the outside, I found them a very entertaining team to watch. Seems like this one is one of their better squads, and dismantling usually means years of frustration for the fans.

Not sure about calling it that- from what I understand, so many of the players are on rookie contracts, still, that the budget isn't really out of hand. So what really happens is that the expected OC and DC will get promoted. The key part is if the two new guys are as creative as Dan wants them to be.
Figuring out who to root for in the AFC Championship is nerve-wracking. I don't want to have to watch the Chiefs win another Super Bowl, but I also don't want to have to watch the Bills lose another Super Bowl.

If I were a Lions fan I'd worry that the expected candidates go with their old coordinators leaving the Lions looking external. I know teams can't block say a QB coach from interviewing for a OC position but how would that work otherwise? Yes the Lions have the guys in the building but they can't prevent them from leaving for a better position. The best the Lions can do is make it more attractive to stay.

Meanwhile, Jacksonville's best hope for a new coach is the guy the Jets fired after five games...
In reply to JG Pasterjak :
Well it's not like the Jets are know for making good decisions. I think we're destined to be bad to mid until Baalke is gone. I'm ok with either Coen (while looking up his name rumors are he's staying in TB) or Saleh. I really don't know anything about Patrick Graham if anyone wants to fill me in.

Looking at the free agent list for 2025, the biggest appeal to stay here are the players. The promotions that will be offered will be the Lions or the Bears/Jets. Maybe it's me, but the Fords have finally figured out how to run a team, whereas the Bears and Jets are in long term turmoil. Meaning if a lower coordinator does want to become a HC, the best option would be to stay with the Lions.
Still, coordinator churn is part of the business. How many OCs and DCs did Belicheck go through for all of those rings? I know we burned through a few of them here in Detroit.
BTW, ESPN is reporting that Lions DC Aaron Glenn is going to be hired for the next Jets HC. Congratulations for the promotion, but I'm bummed that it is with a program that isn't currently being run all that well. Could be a very short stint.

Yeah, Ben and AG are both going to pretty dysfunctional organizations with ownership problems. Then again, that's why those teams are looking for head coaches... again.

Looks like the D Line coach is going to the Patriots to be their DC. That's 3 out of 4 "good" coaches not going to be there next year so far. As far as Belicheck how much was that him or riding TB. Man I hope I don't have to do any more Patriot talk. I need to go wash my mouth out.
In reply to Stampie :
the D line coach, I'm not so worried about- they were pretty much 100% Aiden Hutchenson. He missed most of the season and still lead the team in sacks.
In reply to alfadriver :
I was only talking about coaches. Just pointing that now it looks like 3 of the best coaches on the staff are gone and that means it's harder to replace them with people that know the Lions way.
In reply to Stampie :
Not sure how great of a coach he was, given one player was pretty much the dominant factor in that. And it's part of the game where people get promotions.
Gutting the team is if they dumped half the team because they had to.
At the end of the day, the fact that other teams want our guys is a good thing. Yes, it sucks to lose good talent (particularly AG), but as long as Holmes and Campbell are in charge, I have faith that they can reload. It also means that this is an attractive place for good coaches to want to come.
