Been noodling over what to do with my F250 Powerstroke for a while, and part of the lack of decision is that I have no clue what it's worth out here at the edge of the salt belt. Keep in mind it's a Northern NV truck and pretty much has not seen any salt on the road until we got out here. Heck, it didn't have much experience with this "moisture" thing .

It's a '96 single cab/long bed PS with about 315k on it. PO took decent care of it, although in the later years of the ownership it served as a hunting rig and has a bit of body damage (bedside behind the rear wheel on the passenger side has some damage right at the wheelarch) to it as a result. I had had a fair amount of work done to the HPOP, plus before I drove it across the country towing my racecar, I've had some major servicing work done - I'll have to dig up the invoice to remember what it was, but it was for several grand.

It has a few quirks typical for something with this mileage and something tends to wind up in the leaf spring front suspension if you drive up an incline at full lock, followed by a 'clonk'.

While it's fine for tooling around the area here, towing my race car and it worked fine when picking up a car from MrChaos down near Asheville, NC, my wife hates riding it in an I can't really use it as a backup vehicle for anything that involves me going near a client. Between that and the extra expenses of diesel servicing, I've been thinking about selling it an maybe get something like an Avalance or an Escalade EXT, but the first issue I have is that I have no idea what a truck like that is worth out here. Out West trucks are usually more expensive that in the Northeast, but OTOH this is a pretty much rust free Western truck.

Only picture I actually have of the truck:

Is it 4wd? If so my hunch is it's a $4-5k truck.

I'd probably say around $3-5K

From searching my local (Ohio) craigslist, asking price for a similar truck is $6-9k.

Take whatever it's actually worth and quadruple it for no reason at all.  That's what it will sell for.

Also, that's the ONLY reason I'm driving a gas truck right now.

Its also one of the reasons people buy them... resale value.  I bought a 95 PSD in 2000 with 36k for $10,000.  I drove it for 8 years, collected $3100 in insurance checks for a smacked-up driver's side that I never fixed, and sold it in 2008 with 132k for $7100 and the buyer thought I was hiding something because it was too cheap.  I made money on it.  Imagine how much money I could get for it today.

If you can find any powerstroke that still has a body on it for $3-5k, buy that E36 M3 IMMEDIATELY and bring it to PA. You'll triple your money or more.

Good god, can't even find a rust free gasser up for for 5k, diesels start at 10k as tetanus traps and go up from there. 7k if they don't run

For your crack-smoking reference, this is what your truck goes for around here

Lots of hootus-compensating bolt-ons:  https://reading.craigslist.org/cto/d/pottstown-1997-f250-powerstroke/7104005792.html

More crack-smoking for $14k:  https://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/d/belle-mead-1995-ford-powerstroke-clean/7108324363.html

Or, "I'm guessing aftermarket turbo and injectors, not sure what else" for $25,000:  https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/d/pittsburgh-1997-obs-f250-powerstroke/7105046357.html

Maybe you prefer "only 172k miles" for $12,000:  https://delaware.craigslist.org/cto/d/saint-georges-1995-ford-350-xlt-73/7101842018.html

Perhaps a clapped-out, mix-n-match bodied pile of junk for a mere $6700:  https://harrisonburg.craigslist.org/cto/d/mount-jackson-73-powerstroke/7097599362.html

Mileage unknown for $10k:  https://richmond.craigslist.org/cto/d/kents-store-powerstroke/7097273645.html

Here is a really clean, low-mileage example for 26 berkeleying thousand dollars: https://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/d/sicklerville-1997-ford-f250-rcab-73l/7105720142.html

Your truck (if you brought it to PA) could be wrapped around a tree, struck by a train, and set on fire and still bring $4k

Well, if the weather was a little clearer today I could see PA from my office window. Heck my wife's LJ came out of PA (although admittedly the seller had dragged it up to PA from WV).

Yes, it's a 4x4 and the 4x4 is working.

Mine's got some cosmetic issues - typical white paint falling off etc - but based on the above I should probably start advertising it around $7500-$8k and see what happens. I'll post a few more pictures this evening so y'all can tell me if that would be crack pipe for a truck like this.

Am I glad I did ask on here before, because I may have advertised it a lot lower than $6k-$7k it should realistically bring and probably wondered why my phone exploded.

Mine had a sideswiped driver's side and zero options; 2wd, rubber floor, radio delete, crank windows, no A/C, and someone thought $7100 was too cheap.

Go big.  If it were here (of course, not seeing the truck in person its hard to tell) I would start at $11k OBO and see what you get.

Hell PA - bring it to Canada and slap a $15-$20K price tag on it.

Curtis is right.

Hell I saw an ad on FB yesterday for a 04 Chev 1500HD 4X4 gasser that needed rockers and the guy wanted $5K, with 355K kms on it.

People with trucks are out of their berkeleying minds.

In Ohio I'd start the advertising at 12k and go from there. Being a 4x4 with intact body panels basically makes it gold for diesel fans in the rust belt.

I sold my poorly running 2001 2500 had 8.1 with no rockers and no straight panels for 4500 and the guy was full of glee. I'd ask 12.5 and expect about 11k pretty quick

Also be very clear in your ad that the truck has never seen salt....  finding a truck (or car) older than 2000 is pretty much impossible in eastern Ontario these days because of rust unless they’ve been stored for the winter... and we’ll  pay a premium if they have.

Ask $11,500 and say negotiable. Because why the hell not?

It's all about replacement value.  You're probably right.  The truck is not worth that much.  However, you could pay 40 grand or (much) more for a new truck or pay 11 grand for a clean, relatively rust-free truck that maybe needs another grand to fix everything that's wrong with it.  A diesel with 315K probably has at least another hundred-hundred and fifty thou left in it if the POs show any kind of care.
