Watched Vampire Hunter D this week.  Artwork was great, the storyline not so much.  I was stunned to find the voice for VHD was in fact, not Liam Neeson b/c I'd have bet 10 bucks it was either him or Hugo Weaving.

Heh.  This reminds me of something from about eight years ago.  I was perusing an anime streaming website and saw a Movie for a manga that I'd really liked.  (Koe no Katachi)  Dutifully, I started watching, since I didn't know that they made a movie of it.

The movie started in English, specifically the song My Generation by The Who.  I immediately think that either I accidentally started watching a dub (boo, hiss) or that I'd been Monsters Inc'd(*).  So I went to animenewsnetwork to see what the OP should have been.

Not only did the Japanese studio buck up the money for the rights to the song, but I saw a news brief that said that there was going to be a limited theater release in the US.  A theater near my house was showing it the very next day.  I immediately prepurchased a ticket, which was good because the theater sold out the showing.

Perfect timing, that!  And it was a really good movie, they translated it well from page to screen.

(*) Back when downloading movies from P2P was a thing, it was common for people to take Monsters Inc and rename it as a popularly searched movie.  Common enough that Monsters Inc became a verb.

Hey, it's funny you mentioned that.  I'd forgotten all about that problem.  Update: Normally you select the language/subtitles as you're starting the DVD as part of the set up process.  Turns out there was a button on the remote of my DVD player that enabled me to select "Language/Subtitles" and I was able to get the English version of the movie.  <happy dance>
