I had continuous conduit buried from the house to the barn, my buddy who is an electrician is coming to help wire it in a few weeks but I want to bury the ends which means I should fish the wires through now.
Internet wisdom says 3 strands of #4 copper will give me a 100amp service but then I see that I need 3 strands of #3. Help me out here, which is it?
How long is your run? I have some leftover from the barn. It was either 2 or 2/0 I cant remember which, 3 strands plus a ground one size smaller. I also cat5e or cat 6 direct burial internet cable.
Just run pull ropes through the conduit now, and replace with wire when the sparky comes over

Oh I dont have that much. I'm no expert but 4 gauge sounds small for 100a especially with that long of a run. Since you already have an electrician involved, what has he said?
You are squarely in 2-gauge territory here, and even at that you can expect an 8% voltage drop.
4 gauge would be good for about 100A for 25'. You're multiplying that by 5 or 6. Do it once, do it right.
Also... are you running 240v or 120v? If 120v, it's a whole new ballgame for code things.
He's on a job and hasn't answered, Curtis and my FIL both said 2 so 2 it is.
Good to hear. It's expensive, but worth it.
How big is the conduit? What size wire fits?
