My biggest fear in dealing with neighbors: Remember Cliff Clavin, fed up with his neighbor's unkempt property etc., wrote a nasty letter that ended with
"...and bark hello to your wife for me!"
As he mails the letter his mother comes in and tells Cliff that the neighbor apologized because he was working overtime getting ready for the big Karate Tournament this weekend.

I could visualize the mess across the road from me by your description! Was there a junked RV trailer on the property as well filled with all manner of detritus? A broken down ford conversion van with smashed glass? A rear axle from a truck?
He also stops everything he's doing when I drive by to flip me the bird. No matter what. Nice to know he cares enough to communicate with me.
The Vermont State Police officer I spoke to knows him on a first name basis. And it's not cause they're friends!
It's a trailer you say? Late night hook up and move to a less offensive (visible) site sounds in order. The blatent aggression of flipping you off every time would be the straw to my good humored back.
My current annoyance with neighbors is that sweet little old lady next door sold out to one of those management companies who turned a duplex into a 4plex. Now the tenants are very transitory, do no yard work, don't bring the bins in after trash day (I've taken to moving them off the curb and into the middle of their yard), and once stayed up till 2 AM playing loud music from their truck in the driveway (I had to have a word with them that night and they realized the error of their ways).
