I don't drink coffee, but my wife does. About 8 years ago I bought her a Breville espresso machine, she has been extremely happy with it. Recently, she has been complaining that the coffee is not hot, just comes out lukewarm.
I was thinking on buying her a new one. Any coffee drinkers here and does anyone here have any suggestions? I'd spend around 1-1.5k for one that works well and lasts another 8 years.
I don't want a huge monster that will take up all the countertop space. The one she has now looks like this:

For that money, can you get a new heating element put in her old one?
What he said. Most appliances come apart easy so as long as you can find the part it should be fixable.
Chances are the heating element has some scale buildup on it.
Try some CLR or Vinegar before you throw it out.

This. I have a Breville expresso machine that I bought used at a yard sale for 20$ because it was lukewarm. Gave it about 3-4 vinegar treatments (be VERY careful if you use CLR), and it's been brewing great for two years. If the element was broken, it wouldn't warm at all.
This may be a little large for home use, My brother works for this company. Coffee prepared by a robot, able to be preordered via cellphone and picked up at an unmanned kiosk, perfectly adjusted to your taste and ready to go.

I agree with the others. .. try a vinegar water solution there are instructions online. I've had a refurb Breville Ikon (previous model to yours) that I have had for over ten years and I use every day.
Espresso. Sorry. I got nothin' else.
I didn't want to be that guy. Glad you did
Fised the "x" for you guys on the post, could not fis the title tho
Btw:

Merriam-Webster says it is alright.
I'm not an espresso person, I like my keurig and Dunkin k-cups but the de-scaling treatment should clear up any isses you have.
I had a succession of better and better ones over the years, but scored a Pasquini Livia 90 from a failing biotech company out of who's build the smaller failing biotech company that employed me, was moving.
It's been a joy to use for 10 solid years and will likely outlive me.
Regarding yours - if it hasn't been descaled regularly, it needs it. Try that, and if it doesn't improve matters, ping me offline - I have a few machines that are surplus to our ongoing operations that I'd sell at GRM bro-deal price.

"If we mispronounce it enough, eventually it gets "variant" status!" Congrats, President Camacho.
It's berkeleying Espresso.
I've been using one of these at my desk at work for the past two years and couldn't be more pleased. The machine costs $100 and serves a perfect espresso every single time - no prep, no clean up, no mess.

yeah … Webster's also says irregardless is a word … even spell check doesn't freak out when it sees that word … same for expresso …
You Americans can't spell anything properly, don't let expresso stop you.

You're missing the point. Women speak in code. "The coffee isn't hot enough." is a euphemism for "You're not getting the job done in the bedroom." I think you need to be looking for a different sort of small appliance.
Don't need no damn small appliance.
I read it and spotted his mistakes.

He's not willing to take those steps..
Obviously, the manufacturers of these machines are all spelling "Expresso" wrong. Webster should write a letter.

I've been happy with our breville dual boiler.
Good- dual boiler,built in pid
Bad- while it looks nice it is a little delicate (thin wall metal, just be careful and you'll be fine)
Keep an eye out for the Williams Sonoma 30% off sale and you might get it for $899
For that price it can't be beat.

I start my day with one of these filled with cuban coffee each morning. makes one good sized cup full of rocket fuel on the stovetop. Take it camping, take it everywhere, and it's dirt cheap.

You did well.
I picked up a Bunn-O-Matic G1 grinder a few years back for $20; it has certainly served me well. I am delaying my entry into homemade espresso; it is an expensive rabbit hole.
