So it looks like we will be adopting sometime this year and I immediately start thinking about our camping trips and how much room we'll need. I figure myself and my wife, both kids and a friend for each of them and there is the chance we will take our two dogs. The 04' + quest seems to be the best space per $$$ used minivan out there.

Am I wrong? Also are there any known problems I should be concerned about?

I heard '04 had a bunch of quality control issues. I do know it shares it's 3.5 with the Z and maxima. I've heard good things about the VQ motor.

Discuss and + or -

Thanks Dan

Run away! The 04s had everything wrong with them. They got better as they made them, but they're still bad for rattles and water leaks. The ECMs are under the cowl and up here in Canada they like to corrode right through the housing, ruining it. The power doors and hatches are useless and jam up really easily. I seem to see a lot of them with timing chain rattles, probably just a product of the owners treating them as appliances and not changing the oil enough as I'm pretty sure they're the same as VQ altimas and maximas. Personally I'd go for the equivalent Sienna.

Personally I find it hilarious that a user named Run_Away is telling you to run away from this car. That's all I have to add.

I'm not a Nissan fan. Mazda MPV, Honda Oddyssey, or even (gasp!) the Toyota Sienna.

I am probably mistaken...but didn't only the first year of this generation quest have a standard auto and all subsequent years have a cvt?

I think the styling has aged well. But that doesn't help reliability.

Nope, the 04s had a 4 speed automatic, the 05s had the option of a 4 speed or 5 speed auto I believe and after that they all had the 5 speed auto. It's possible they got a CVT in '08/'09 like the maxima, honestly I don't remember.

< Nissan service writer.

Buy an Odyssey, Sienna, or even a Caravan/T&C, before a Quest.

As others have stated '04 was dark times for Nissan quality. They improved some, the '07+ refresh is about as old of a Quest as I would consider.

Michelin PAX tires... shudder

Thanks guys! I'll keep looking. I own a first gen odyssey and I love it but all the newer minivans lack style. The quest is the only unique looking one out of the bunch.

Bummer.

6 people and two dogs and camping gear? Sounds like you need a suburban.

Suburban is way too big for my taste. I'm thinking the dogs can chill back behind the third seat and I ca pull a small trailer
with all our gear in it to free up space. Checked out an 05' odyssey and I think it's the right size for what we'll need someday.
