I would have argued, but she's tolerated a lot more yard art than any reasonable person should be asked to, so after voicing my opinion initially, I simply shrugged my shoulders and told her that "if it made her happy, it made me happy."
I put my foot down when someone wanted to give us a "free horse" though.
This is where I was at...spent a saturday getting it home, because my wife always wanted to get one when 'we had the space' and, now we have the space. So now we can't hear each other talk when making dinner because the kid is playing up a storm in the next room. But she loves it. So there's that..
The horses come next month.
My one condition on the "free piano" was that it needed to get to it's place in the living room without me having to lift a finger. The "gifter" found some church friends and delivered and set it up, even came back and tuned it after it'd had a week to settle into the new house. The youngest has had nearly 3 years of piano lessons, so she's enjoying it. No piano playing before morning coffee, or after dinner.
The "free horse" was too much. I explained it, and she did the math and realized feeding and boarding it was going to be the equivalent of a new car payment for whatever the life of the horse was, she reluctantly agreed that it wasn't the best use of our finances. Afterward we found out the horse wouldn't have even been ridable for the kids. The horse did find an owner who had a nice pasture and extra stables the horse could live out it's last days in relative comfort, without the new owner undertaking nearly the financial burden it would have been for us. Win-Win.
