GRM folks buy a lot of cars that are inoperable - how do you road-test THOSE? Stick a milk crate on the floor and grip a dinner plate and make vroom vroom noises?

Back on topic, the only new vehicle I have purchased in 20 yrs of driving, I didn't test drive until the ink was dry on the loan papers. But it was a dealer traded model and on top of that, what did you think I expected for a 96 Ranger XL in 2wd with a 2.3 and 5 speed? And to add in, I looked at that exact truck months earlier at the original dealer, but never drove it.

That is how road test them. Although I also have to hope I don't fall thru the floor.

Because it was exactly what I wanted. I had no use of a 4.0L V6 with a 5spd and Splash suspension with a Fleetside bed, that was a fun test drive btw, the dealer had on the lot. Even in 13 MI winters, I may have needed 4x4 three or four times. So I didn't need that either. All I wanted was a bare bones, point A to point B, and cheap on gas pickup. It served me well for 120k miles, after it almost got lemon'd over the rear brakes and alignment problems.
I couldn't buy that truck used, it didn't exist. Or if it did exist used, it was a junky, rusty, used up POS, and probably had 4x4 that didn't work.
