I was originally planning on working the 4th and all weekend, just to get some overtime and pay off bills.  My wife convinced me to take a couple days off, so as soon as I leave the office today we're driving down to see my parents in central Florida, which will be nice.  Hopefully I don't run into my e36 m3head brother at the barbeque.  But I've worked three weeks straight now without a day off, so a short vacation will be nice.

Going to put some food in the crockpot this evening to before bed. Taking PTO on Friday.

My girlfriends parents stayed with us for 5 days two weeks ago, so I'm ready for a long weekend where the only I have to be concerned with is "Do I want to play video games? Guitar? Oh I need another beverage."

That's the dream right there. It's not too often that you get 4 days off for the price of 1.

And because of certain other factors, us hourly folks typically get 4-6 days a year of "PTO" that we don't actually claim.

Friday is one of those days. Everyone on my team signed off about 1.5 hours ago...............I'm enjoying a very tasty Gin & Tonic at the moment. :)

It will be a great day - our small town (Ouray, Colorado) knows how to put on a super 4th, we typically get several thousand tourists who want to party - but it's also one of my busiest days of the year.  Starts by selling about 300 BBQ lunches on the front steps of the Elks lodge from right after the parade (11 am) until the food is gone (around 2 pm), then I get to run the karaoke show at the Elks from 6:30 until the fireworks start - then beat it out of town before they end, or you get stuck in a traffic jam that will take me 2 hours to get home (15 miles).

You all have a safe 4th, and remember what it's for.  It bothers me that when the flag goes by at the start of the parade, of the 400 - 500 people I can see from the lodge steps, usually the only people who take off their hats are our lodge members and maybe three or four other people.  Respect takes almost zero effort and time, and is apolitical.

Going flying in the morning, may work in my friend's shop making wheel chocks.  Ever had Lobster Tails on the grille (in the shell) with a splash of Italian dressing?

Be safe out there folks!

I really need to finish up the big smoker, I'll have to get creative to get these all on the small smoker.

Smoked eggs? Ha.

All looks good. I really need to buy a smoker. Generally, I lack the planning and patience needed for smoking.

Maybe I need an electric smoker and start it at 11pm and pull it out in the morning.

The plan was to throw the brats on the smoker tomorrow morning when I start the butts.  Small cast iron over the coals makes a couple over easy eggs in no time, they're great on top of the brats.

I do most of my smoking in a Weber kettle.  They seal up well so you have pretty good control of airflow.  I'm a glutton for punishment so I've always smoked with charcoal, but my coworker gave me a cheap  electric smoker a few years ago.  Sometimes I'll start on the charcoal for a few hours then throw it in the electric.  I'll also throw them in the oven to finish them sometimes.  They only take smoke for a few hours.

You just missed a crazy deal at rural king on a pellet smoker.

I like to smoke my eggs whole, just throw them in the cook chamber for an hour or so, come out of hard boiled style with s really smooth flavour.

I had the day off from work, put the window a.c. unit downstairs at request of Mrs. Dx, got out on the bicycle, got asked at the supermarket if I knew where bags of ice were (I had riding gear and a yellow vest mind you), relaxed this afternoon and dinner with family tonight. Fireworks have been going off the last day and change. The two younger cats are scared and spooked by them and two older cats aren't phased by them anymore. Back to work tomorrow and Saturday.

The night in the hotel was uneventful. I haven't watched TV in quite a few years. When did commercial breaks start taking 7-10 minutes? Chuck Woolery led me to believe 2 minutes and two seconds was the standard.

Got back to the house this morning to find it and all the cars blanketed with a quarter inch of ash and cardboard and paper shreds.  Glad I wasn't around for it. Usually when the neighborhood runs out of fireworks they resort to firing pistols in the air after midnight frown
