They've consumed more services than they've paid for over the majority of their lifetime. Now they are depressing my 401K.

Most haven’t saved enough to retire and are planning on working until they keel over.

Of course, basic physics foretells the inevitable outcome of employing that strategy:

My parents tried to tell me I was being irresponsible with my money/not paying down debt quick enough. My father earned $10/h back when he was 23. I earn $24/h, pay more in taxes, and have $20k in debt from an education. As far as I am aware, many things (food, housing, cars, education etc) have increased in price by more than 2.4x the amount $10/h bought back in the day. I always like to remind them that they ruined it for me as baby boomers.

Stop whining because you spent too much money to get into a low paying field.

I don't care what you guys think of us boomers, I'm retiring in 5 years anyway

Boomers bought in to the crap that was fed them.

What are those "youngsters" buying in to today?

I wouldn't worry too much about that. There is a lot of "new" money running around these days, it has to go somewhere and a lot of it is going into the stock market (one reason why the market recently hasn't really reflected how the economy is going lately)

I think the answer to your question is:

"Huh?"

If you think the boomers are in bad shape, wait until the following generation....

Aging population bubbles suck.

Stock tip: adult diapers, stool softeners, aspirin.

Should I start an organic prune farm? the product creates 'organic' fertilizer to help grow more organic prunes! plus the 100% additional fee for adding the word 'organic' and I'll be rich!

Us youngsters have at least been educated in the reality that SS will not cover retirement. We need to plan for the assumption that we'll have nothing in SS benefits by the time we retire to our Lunar homes while we pull weeds in our moon gardens and commute with jet packs.

That is if the d-bags that destroy the stock market during their daily anxiety attacks don't wipeout our 401Ks before then.

I suspect that Gen X will be the last generation that will grow up convinced that a McMansion, two new cars obtained by climbing a corrupt corporate ladder are the keys to happiness. Maybe that is just wishful thinking.

Steampunk is what happens when a nerd is also a hipster, isn't into anima, but like Wild Wild West, and then makes 'crafts' with a bunch of cheap shiney brass on it.

(Some of it looks cool...)

I work in the medical field and participate in a car pool.

This morning on the way in we discussed how we’re statistically way, way over due for a good old fashioned pandemic.

Historically, you lose 25 to 33 percent of the population when they hit with a disproportionately high loss ratio among the young, old, & infirm…in other words, exactly the folks that are consuming rather than producing.

The next time you look up and see a con trail coming off a jet, ask “is that a con trail or are they dispersing”.

Come on up. You can earn $100k per year if you so desire with nothing more than a grade 12 education. You can earn over $20/h, working monday through friday 8-5 with benefits and vacation, also with only a grade 12 education and never have to leave town.

It isn't so bad, it's just that some people have ridiculous expectations when it comes to how much junior people should get paid vs what was earned "back in the day". Instead of working with my body, I work with my brain now, and my waistline proves it!

Steampunk is a fantasy genre that mixes classic Victorian styles with brass works powered by steam.

Last time I checked, our fake dollar was worth more than your real dollar.

Edit- Oh, and did I mention there is an impending labour shortage? We could probably due with more 'mericans and less Filipinos
