Whoops
"A fire that spread through a grassy area of Southwest Florida International Airport has destroyed thousands of rental cars, fire department officials said.
The blaze began Friday, spanned 15 acres and originally involved only 20 cars in the grassy rental car overflow area at the airport in Fort Myers, fire department officials said.
But by the time it was extinguished, the flames had destroyed more than 3,500 rental cars"
Pardon my sarcasm, and I don't wish to imply that this was intentional. How convenient for the rental company.
I can only imagine those are 3500 cars that the rental company has no immediate use for due to reduced business travel.
I'm not fully saying this was intentional but I can see the benefits if it was.
Actually, probably just another casualty of the times. No more paved parking to put all the idled cars so they had to park them out in the fields. I know my local Enterprise location has a packed parking lot right now.
On the FB post where I originally saw this, someone commented: "oh, all those poor base model Dodge Chargers."

I was going to ask how they could possibly replace so many Nissan Altimas.
Should be able to find some smoking deals on used rental cars in the near future.
Sorry, I'll see myself out.

I really can't think of a better use for an Altima.
Will be interesting to see the cause. Hot catalyst over dry grass maybe? At least its (I'll assume) a bunch of late model boring-mobiles so no big loss.
My 0.02¢ is a driver got out of a car with the FOBIK and left the car running, walked away. The grass dried out and poof!
That's one lucky rental company
They disinfected 3500 cars with one match
The world's Chevy Captiva population has been cut by 2/3rds
It's been very dry here in Florida, March had the least rain on record for the month.
I'm sure it didn't take much to get it going.
Travel industry in the toilet? Rental usage fallen off a cliff? Well then...
Some good new car sales that will be need.
It's Florida, someone was probably disposing if a body in a trunk and things just got out of hand.

I heard Carole Baskin was there right before the blaze erupted.
Good riddance to to terrible cars
Rip to their insurance rates.
I wonder what the carbon footprint of 3500 burning cars is, relative to say 3500 battery-powered Teslas. Just curious.
Also, does anybody have a pic of this event from satellite orbit?

You're saying this as if it was a bad thing?

I thought it was character actress Margo Martindale.
