Eh, it does matter, but not really so much in most pistol rounds. The common ones are all pretty "wimpy."
That article was good but those numbers are too small to start making generalizations.

Shot placement is far more important than caliber......also, when in doubt/or the threat is still coming at you, empty the magazine.
Kinetic energy of "stopping power" only substancially comes into play in higher powered rifles.....at that point, its "Is the target still standing/in one piece?"
