Wouldn't say it's aged super well, but if the assignment is '90s, it doesn't get much more '90s than this.

Can't believe no one else has said this:

Although Downward Spiral is a damn fine choice too.

You know how sometimes people say of an artist, "If they'd only ever released [one particular album], they'd still be one of the greatest artists of all time!"

Well...

JG will appreciate this one, and I should have posted it sooner. A little bit of GRM history for you.

Self-released in 1996.

Crystal Method "Vegas." Feel as fresh today as it did in 1997.

In reply to David S. Wallens :

Gabe was a hell of a horn player. I used to put on Skif Dank and dance like a crazy person with Tommy and Katie when they were very little. They loved it.

If aliens landed and in between probes asked me to name one album that sounds like the 90s, it would be "Sparkle and Fade" by Everclear.  I'm not saying its the best album of the 90s, just that is sounds more like the 90s to me than anything else.

I'm still stuck on Bloodline and their self titled album. Too bad they never really got traction.

Pearl Jam's Ten is my favorite, but here are a few others:

Metallica - Black Album

DMB - Crash

DMB - Live at Red Rocks

Collective Soul - Self Titled

Live - Throwing Copper

Alice in Chains - MTV Unplugged

Gin Blossoms - New Miserable Experience

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream

Crash was more popular, Before These Crowded Streets was the best musicianship, but Under the Table and Dreaming sounds distinctly 90s.

Short, but so so sweet.

Allman Brothers

Back where it all begins

Soulshine

No one to run with

^Beat that. Any one of those songs alone would have defined a career for any other band... and they're tracks three, four and five on the same album. And this is just a footnote for the Allman Brothers Band.

In reply to Duke :

I'd actually put that one in my post first, then thought Dirt might resonate with more of the audience.

I can't even begin to imagine the number of times I've gone through this album. It's another in my 90s top 5 list. I was essentially obsessed with Sublime, had bootlegs, live show cassettes, everything I could get my hands on at one point; all stolen from me many years ago. Most of the way through the second page, we can start bending rules.

Never made it big outside of mild success in 90s college radio but had a large following overseas with the hit '74-75'. Not a mainstream pick, but definitely the soundtrack for my collegiate years.

Since the black album and sparkle and fade were taken I will claim this one. It might not be the best album of the 90s, but it is the most 90s album of the 90s.

The "Singles" soundtrack is actually the winner here.

Yeah, but that's cheating, innit?
