It is interesting, but I think clearing a jam would be a lot harder. Maybe it has a magazine disconnect to make it easier?

PSA has the 9mm Tisas 1911 Double Stack for a REALLY good price on their daily deal until midnight tonight...like ~$200 off the normal price they run for...

That is a really good price.  Mine has run 100%.  I didn't like the stock trigger, so switched to a slightly longer one, and had the grip stippled locally.

I have a couple Tisases, including a 10mm 1911 and a 5.7. Both run great, and I've been surprised at how decent they are for the price point.

I don't know, the PR57 is kinda growing on me. I tend to like absurd things just for the novelty so I kinda want it just for that.

Very true.

I'm kinda reaching on what exactly it would be useful for and I don't usually like to get KelTecs first run of anything but besides that I think it could be an interesting start into 5.7, hard to believe it's like a quarter of the price of the FN which was the only option forever

For rounds of that type I do find that I prefer .22 TCM, but 5.7 is still fun. Ammo is expensive for the 5.7, though, and reloading is a bit twitchier than .22 TCM.

That said, I bought my PX 5.7 on a Black Friday sale for something like $280 so it's still a giggle.

I think the Tisas PX 5.7 would be a nice entry into 5.7x28mm as would the PSA 5.7 Rock... got to handle the Tisas PX 5.7 recently at Modern Warriors and it felt really nice. Wouldn't trade my PSA 5.7 Rock for one, but if didn't have the Rock it would be a good choice - especially for $300. I do prefer the trigger, grip, and look of the Rock over the PX 5.7

Finally had a special 1-3/8" crows foot come in today so could finally do the upgrades on the Aero M5... installed the Wilson Combat handguard (Massive pain to do as has to be clocked precisely to screw into the barrel nut with 6 screws... had to over torque it a bit in order to have it clocked properly - all different iterations with/without shim within torque range didn't work, neither did adding aluminum & copper tape to fine tune the shim thickness), Superlative Arms adjustable gas block, and HUXWRX QD muzzlebrake/suppressor mount. So the Aero M5 is now setup how I want and have good tuning adjustments to run it with the suppressor.

The Tisas is pretty cool agreed, definitely more standard than the pr57

Yeah that PR57 is very interesting... only concern I'd have is since the magazine is built in and not removeable, if there is any issue with feeding or ejecting the gun will have to be field stripped to fix if not an easy quick remedy to clear. Assuming you can get the slide all the way back to be able to take it down.

Totally agree there, I'm hoping they have a magazine disconnect at least so if it jams it doesn't attempt to double/triple feed

Built a steel pig target to practice for our matches.  Just 1/4" mild steel... should be fine for .22.

Does anyone know anything about the Charles Daly by Zastava 308 rifles?  I need to preface this with years ago I bought a Spanish M1916 in 308 because I just  love the Mauser action.  Long term goals was to make it into a custom target gun.  Lil Stampie and I hit a gun shop for ammo today and ran across one of these.  It's a sporter based off the Mauser 98 action.  Main changes to the M98 is no strip clip hole (scope would prevent that) and the safety is modified to be off the bolt (was going to have to modify the M1916 bolt anyway).  For ~$500 I figure I save hundreds on mods to the M1916 and get a rifle that is already 95% of what I was looking to make the M1916 become.  I already put a deposit down so that I could research but wondering if there's anyone  out there that's going to say oh no it sucks.

Here's a review from 2002.

Yeah from what little I can find it seems like very good bones to it.  The one I'm looking at has a cheap scope and bipod that I'll have to replace but the scope can go to my AR 450 Bushmaster.  Pretty sure a straight 4x will work for hog hunting.

In reply to Stampie :

the only thing I "know" is that there were various Mauser milsurp actions exported from Spain, some of which were based on pre-98 actions.  I think those originally chambered 7mm Mauser not 8mm Mauser.  I think some of those were referred to as FR-7's and the 7.62x51 rechambering of those rifles pushes the envelope of the pressure limits of those small (?) ring actions.  The FR-8 (which was based on the large ring '98 action) were rechambered for 7.62x51mm and are regarded as safe.  I've got a book on Mausers and I'll try to remember to take a look at it when I get home from work.

I used to know this stuff pretty well when I worked at MidwayUSA but a lot of it has fallen off the back of my mental shelf...

Mausers are pretty strong actions, but I would still be hesitant to run ammo at modern pressures through an older (pre WWII) milsurp rifle.  I have a Swedish 96 Mauser that I have been working up loads for, and recently discovered the starting load in the current Hornady manual is hotter than the factory PPU ammo loaded to the original specs.

I'm not a big fan of things Charles Daly, but I would guess that's a modern rifle built on a Mauser pattern, not a rebuilt milsurp action, so I wouldn't worry about action strength for modern .308.

This one checks out as a 98 action and since they were made in the early 2000s for 308 I'm not worried about it not handling the modern loads.  Right now I'm stuck on what scope to put on it.  I figure there's no reason to go crazy as 300 yards is probably the max I'll ever shoot it.  I want a mil dot and with SFP.  I saw a review of the Leopold VX Freedom last night.  I like the light weight but it's FFP.   When I have time I'll see if I can find what I want for a reasonable price.

Now the current Mauser I own is a Spanish Mauser M1916 that was converted by the Spanish to NATO 7.62x51 in the later 40s.  That one being a small ring based off the 96 I believe, I would be a little leery of a hot 308 load.

Since we're talking Mausers, these were the 6.5x55 test loads that I had to pull apart because they were too hot...

Now all re-assembled at lower powder charges.

Hopefully this will be the last test batch, and I can pick out the load that works best.  Testing tomorrow...

On another note, got a table with a couple friends at a local gunshow for the weekend and sold a couple of guns.  Not many folks were spending money, so it was a bit disappointing overall.  I did bring home a nice S&W .357...

I like that 357.  I need to get a revolver.  I used to own a Colt Trooper III in .357.   Never should have sold it.
