London is upping security for it's Marathon this weekend. That I understand, but ABC says because of this they've closed Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House. Why?
What is the point of this post? Take your floundering elsewhere.
Not floundering at all, just amazed that they would post that as if that was supposed to make it all better. It was directed at WCVB obviously.
Also wondering why they are closing down Pennsylvania Ave. What else is going on?
Also just got word from one of daughter's friends who is up there that with the cell phone service off many cannot post or update to Facebook which is becoming one of the better places to check up on people. So many only have their cell phones and not their computers with them.

Holy crap, don't go looking at pics on Twitter. I just stupidly clicked on a link and saw some poor runner with his legs blown off at the calves.
Heard about this just as I was leaving to go for a run.
My little brother marathons fairly often, he ran the Boston a few years ago.
Awful.

I am in the Back Bay area once a week. Luckily my friend who works in the area is OK. I walk by the buildings where the two first bombs were planted. This is horrifying. My thoughts and condolences go out to all those affected.

I think it's more likely to end up being a case of domestic terrorism rather then a foreign one.
Also the explosion I saw on TV replays looked more like a gun/black power type of explosion. The white smoke and the flame/flash looks typical of that type. It doesn't look anything like a "high" explosive detonation
issue #1 of the al Qaeda terrorist training manual has instructions on how to make a black powder bomb. this is conjecture at best at this point

Investigators have a suspect — a Saudi Arabian national — in the horrific Boston Marathon bombings, The Post has learned.
Oh I guess that the Post has already solved the case! Everybody can now relax!
Is this the same Post that said that there were 10 people killed when the latest reports say only 2. Of course that's 2 to many but really, the Post?

And the anarchists handbook had it in it back in the 80s. Which was easily gotten in the US. So that means nothing.
ABC is now reporting that the JFK Library fire may have just been that- an electrical fire, and maybe not related.

You might have something there.
4/15 Patriot Day
And kinda close.... 4/19. The anniversary date of two events: the confrontation between Federal agents and the Branch Davidians in Waco, Texas in 1993, and the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing carried out by Timothy McVeigh.
Unbelievable. Just can't believe what I'm watching on TV.
Don't konw why, but somehow I think I'd feel better if it was domestic. Guess that doesn't really make any sense. I just hate that it happened.
Haven't turned on the TV. Got sick to my stomach listening to the radio.

As I am currently working on my Mass state tax return this thought is not lost on me... I keep on wondering why?
Frantically refreshing facebook in hopes of seeing another friend check in as OK is a maddening exercise.
I currently live on the route of a big race coming up next month. Do I start begging my friends to skip it this year? Can I watch from the street like usual and wave a flag in proud protest against this horrific act or do I hide inside my condo like a frightened turtle? The chilling effect of something like this is a frustrating conundrum...
I know I am rambling, but I literally feel sickened...
Terrorism(whether domestic or foreign) only works if people end up scared. Don't be.
The amount of smoke makes me think either some type of fertilizer bomb(most likely) or a gun/black powder bomb(likely lower yield than fertilizer).

Eddie, I'm thinking differently than you on that one, bro. It would actually make me feel worse if our internal divisions are so bad that we'd rather bomb each other than talk to each other. Not calling you out, just trying to deal with the shock as well.

I understand - yeah. Don't really know what to feel I guess. Just sucks.

Obviously, there's no good answer. There's no good way for something like this to happen, no reasonable basis for an action like this.
Every faction, every side, internal, external... They've all got some number of deeply berkeleyed up people, and some amount of people egging them on.
It is terrible when somehow these people distill their faction's/culture's/group's philosophies down to some idea that makes it okay to hurt people, and especially to hurt people who are just living, whose only crime is belonging to a different group to the perpetrators...
I'm sorry to babble; I'm trying to make sense of things and I can't, because it doesn't.

Whoever is responsible, the reaction will be predictable. The right will imply that it happened because of the policies of the left. The left will imply that it happened because of the policies of the right. People will yell and scream on talk radio about how it never would have happened if only everyone thought exactly like them. These sentiments are already seeping into the "news" coverage of this event, and they're absolutely infuriating.
These events prove that there are people—whether foreign or domestic—who hate us a great deal. But they also point out that we're pretty good at hating each other.

I am hoping for home grown terrorism. I really do not want to see us tear off across the world again in search of the people that did this

Don't feed the troll, don't feed the troll, don't feed the troll....
Are you really that thick? Did you really read it that way? They posted it with no direction at all. It was not intended to make everything better, or make anything of anything other than to tell you that the President had been notified. It was a fact, the POTUS had been notified of the incident. Frankly, I would like the POTUS to be notified of a terrorist attack. I would hope that you would as well.
Why is Pennsylvania Ave. shut down? Surely you can't be serious with that question. Did you forget that the last time we had a terrorist attack, that they also went after Washington? Regardless of my opinion of the President, the very last thing any person with half a head wants is for him to be killed. Yeah, they should probably protect his house, because they don't know what is going on. Better safe than sorry.

It's always lady liberty that seems to end up paying the price. The power grab that always licks the heels of tragedy won't be taking the day off tomorrow... I wonder what they will call it. The Patriot Act is already taken. I bet that is chapping someone's ass right now.

Yeah, unfortunately, you're almost certain to be proven right.
It's just hard to believe there are people who could do something like this.
Wow unbelievable.........
