The town folk (and their guests) have been warming-up for tomorrow's festivities; The smell of spent fireworks permeates the house and the cat is still under the couch. The recreational bombers lobby greased the State legislature enough to legalize their products and gypsy-style tents selling explosives popped everywhere around here and consumers have rewarded them handsomely.
I'm not complaining. I can deal with the noise and its' a damn sight better that having my previous Georgia neighbors celebrate with firearms.
The borough has a population of about 2,000 but it swells three/four times that for the 4th of July party/parade. How the heck does a town this small manage to find enough entrants to stage a two hour conga line of people, bands, vehicles and floats? Last year boasted an appearance of the Budweiser Clydesdales entourage but the critters rode by in the their transporters. It was drizzling but you'd kinda expect A-B could afford some all-weather shoes for the showcase spokes-equine.
Back to the smell; the town has its' own fireworks extravaganza but my dear, sweet neighbor hosts a family reunion for the 4th and they may attempt to out-do the town; again.
The cat ain't gonna be happy.
Knowing how most pets react to this bullE36 M3, people who can't keep it to the one day can berk right off.
Had neighbors setting off fireworks for over a week now, though last night was definitely the heaviest. For all the things that freak my cats out, fireworks don't seem to bother them at all. They're kind of weird.
My cats have been fine here in my explosion-happy neighborhood of "Little Mexico". I, on the other hand, am getting more skittish and tweaked every year.

Now that you bring it up, this has been the quietest 4th weekend I can remember in quite some time. Normally my neighborhood is lit up for 3 or 4 days, but so far there's been only a few minor instances spread out over the past few nights. Let's see what happens tonight.
Our neighors have been bombing us for days. The cats could care less but the dog has PTSD and doesn't fit under the couch. Tonight's gonna be a long one.
Two years ago one neighbor's kid set fire to our landscaping with their fireworks, so it's not likely that we will take the dog for a drive out in the country either. Happy 4th!

Call me weird, but I'm loving the constant fireworks over the last 5 days. Tonight.... AMAZING. We sit on a hill and can see quite a distance from our living room. Home shows, kids with bottle rockets, and municipal shows.
I have friends with kids and dogs that wake up/freak out and they whine. Ugh.
My kids launched their share. All in, a good evening.
The town does limit it the 4th and the New Year only. I think that's a perfect compromise.
Before putting my 9 year old to bed I told him that I couldn't turn off the fireworks so no need to get up and let me know they bothered him.

I live next to disney. I literally hear fireworks 365 days a year. This year, the Puerto Rican dudes got a little closer than usual with their mortar fire, choosing to light them in the parking lot and potentially burn down a few cars, as opposed to going down closer to the highway ans maybe blowing up 7-11. Granted, I grew up on this ish, too. Bootlegging the big bangs from wi to MN was a family tradition. Right up until we set the cornfield on fire. Then it slowed down. Woulda stopped completely, but we knew the sheriff and managed to extinguish the fire ourselves. I went professional for a bit in my late teens (18-20) but then 9-11 happened, and I never did get recertified.
I think the guy next door is setting off IEDs in his back yard. Holy cats are they loud.
My neighbors have been setting them off for the last couple of days. All the New Yorkers rolled in Friday night and left before firework time on the 4th so last night was semi quiet. I don't really care too much as long as they knock it off around 10-10:30 pm because the dog hates it.
It's been 10 months since I got back from my last trip. Nearby unexpected loud noises still make me look for somewhere to hide. Loud tones like the C-Ram warning send me into a panic... Hopefully that'll get better in time.
Didn't hear one boom at all over the weekend or last night.
Ha, you guys are cute. Our neighborhood always is and has been booming since the first weekend in May and likely won't end until August sometime when people run out of fireworks. I have no idea how people in the neighborhood afford that many explosives or even find the GIGANTIC mortars that very easily outshined the show at the stadium.
This year actually really pissed me off because aside from fireworks being illegal and almost all areas having a fire ban, the neighborhood show went until dawn this morning and there were pieces hitting my house the whole time.
I've never had a pet that was afraid of fireworks. I'd have to get rid of the pet if it was.
In trying to get back into the swing of things now that I have a kid, but since my fireworks guy got arrested in 08, it's difficult. I'm spoiled, phantom and similar stores just sell toys, those stand in every parking lot are even dumber and more annoying. Oh boy sparklers and snaps and tanks that go a foot then sputter sparks.
Having access to commercial fireworks was one of the highlights of my late teens and early 20s. How big of mortar do you want? How big of a pipe do you have to shoot them from? Quarter sticks, half sticks, Roman candles that shot 2" mortars, display pieces that would shoot 120 quarter sticks into the air in a minute, grand finales boxes that would set stuff off for 5 straight minutes. Good times.
God I miss real fireworks. Moving to California made me sad. "Drought" they say, "fire hazard" they say. Horse E36 M3. I've put on bigger displays for family reunions than the cities in Northern California were for the 4th of July.
Although it did make me chuckle when Howie got busted an all of a sudden several cities quit having fireworks displays because they relied on private citizens because they couldn't afford to hire professionals.
I'm still a pyro at heart, but this was actually the first year in quite sometime that I didn't make the pilgrimage to WV to bring home the good stuff. Just didn't want to spend the money, car stuff takes priority right now. Hell, I even turned down an opportunity to pick up some quarter, half, or even full sticks on Saturday. I don't know if this makes me proud or disappointed in myself.

Well, the 4th is over and Brockway, PA has resumed it's relative tranquil state. The official fireworks show started at 9:45pm, about a half mile south of the house. It took about 15min for the gentle breeze to push all the smoke to the northern half of our little, shallow valley.
My neighbor's reunion brood chose to not blow-up her back yard this year so all we had to deal with was the parking lot launching pad a hundred yards away. The local show ended about 10:15pm but the yokel show continued until midnight. I don't if they stopped because of common sense or because of common law (enforcement).
Collins (the cat) huddled under the couch for a good portion of the day. It was 12:30am before he decided it was ok to come out and jump in my lap.
At least he was purring when he got there...
