Punk rock, bmx, Porsche, and I will ad banged up but still worn worn shoes. All things we have in common.
Let's bust out some shoes...
1/7 Vans:
Still will wear but get wet socks/feet when raining...
2/7 Vans:
Current go to pair. Been to HI and Guam.
Docs 1/3:
Been all over. Bought in 1986ish, worn to my HS graduation in 1988. Still wear comfortably today.
What you (and anyone else) got?
Don't make me bust out my Carhart coat or some of my flannels (that Mrs. preach hopefully did not throw out). I get out of my Cayman pretty often making Magnus Walker look well dressed.
Not my crustiest pair of Vans (those are in the garage since they’ve finally been demoted to lawn duty) but pretty worn.
Not sure where my nicer Slip Ons went. Might be in the laundry room. I have some Dogtown Eras new in a box. No idea why I never wore them. Now I see they’re worth some money.
Wingtip Docs, too–you know, for formal occasions. These are made in England and only periodically available. I have another pair plus a vegan pair.
Trying to remember when I got my first pair of Docs. It might have been on the way to or from the press introduction for the original WRX which, oddly, took place in late 2000 IIRC. I think before that I had some military dress shoes from the Army/Navy store.
I‘ve been wearing Vans since I was like 12, though, with a break during college because I couldn’t afford them. Plus you needed a skate/surf shop back then. So I wore Chucks. Went through a lot of Chucks. We had a place in Athens (Kum’s Fashion) that carried all of the colors. I even had some plaid flannel ones.
Although I do have one pair of non-Vans sneakers: PRO-Keds.
It’s a long story, but my brother got a matching pair.
I was racing BMX when I got my first pair so probably about 9.
I have 2 decent pair of laced ones, but I prefer slip ons.
I just got 3 more pairs delivered today from Vans' recent 30% off sale.
I don't know who (besides me) needs to hear this but.....
You can order Vans Old-Skool and Authentics in wide widths directly from Vans website. No other vendor carries them. They don't even cost more.
Useful for folks like me who have pounded their feet wider by standing on concrete 10 hours a day for 30 years.
I am very much enjoying my new Authentics. It has been a long time since I could cram my feet into a pair

Those are bitchin' even if dressing up to me is a non-torn flannel and some of my more decent Vans.
Pics to come, but I just found out my knee high Fluevog boots (Derby style in black) I bought in 1993 for $100 are now worth at least $500 used! They don't make them anymore, and they are 'vintage' lol. I haven't worn them in a long time, and they are in good shape. I'm going to sell them for car part money!
