Ok, I read lotsa magazines, car, phych, diy stuff etc. Anyway, when I'm reading my other car mags I've found myself skipping past anything Lexus, Toyota, SUV (except Jeep, but they aren't SUV's), pretty much anything that doesn't fit withing GRM. typically 60% or more of it. Anyway, here's where I'm afraid you might ban me.
I find myself, for the last few years skipping anything 911. I love older ones, I almost picked up a mid 70's and still want one but when I see an article for a new 911 it just doesn't get my blood boiling like the cayman (sexxxy!) or an old Opel or some beat up p.o.s. one of you dragged home from the bone yard and are going to do some powertrain swap God never intended nor approves.
Do I need help? Do I still belong?
My only saving grace; any car that would make my wife say "why did you drag that home" excites me like a prom date with a "reputation".
Doc, we will always love you no matter what. well maybe not if you . . . .
...were to take Per's Volkswagen and decide to use it for...
...the basis for an El Camino project...
...but maybe a ranchero project...
What exactly is your ban concern here?
It's cool Boost. I'm not big on 911s either. To be honest, i never really have been. The only ones that do anything for me are the boosted variants, and possibly the GT3.
The only other relative i'm halfway interested in would be the Carerra 4S. It's got a serious case of DAT ASS going on.

The fact that the new 911's don't excite me. I mean the 911 is supposed to be the ultimate sports car and has been around for a long time. I used to get all excited about anything Porsche.....
I too get bored with anything Porsche. Maybe it's from driving the early models (pre 1984) and realizing that they are just glorified VWs.
Except the Boxster and Caymen, no Porsche does it for me. I tried really, really hard to like the 944 but they are just "meh" and 911's have never done it for me. Then again, my grandfather is full-blooded Italian and I have a room full of red Ferrari models, so maybe it's genetic...
I would rather have an "off beat" cool project than a "beat off" cool project ;)
gotta agree with JB, cool project wins! personally unless it's a cayman or boxster, I'm not all that interested in porche's....and then I start looking for something nasty to throw in em, though lately I have to admit the Viper is growing on me, in a bad way.
If you no longer like the 911, don't worry. There are several 12-step programs to get you over this affliction, and I think there is a colony somewhere you could live out your days with those that share this horrible curse.
After looking after my boss's 1976 911, it was new.
I found that much of the parts were VW and when the pedal cluster started sticking because of poor assembly, easily corrected and how much they cost, it soured me on all Porches.
Since I can't afford one, I still am not very interested.
Their technology is interesting though.

It also costs as much as the houses half of us live in. Not liking it is hardly going to get you in the soup with this crowd.

Yeah, I don't get the impression that the 911 is any kind of sacred cow around these here parts.
Cool car, but obviously not for everyone. Plenty to complain about, and plenty to love and fuss over as well.
That Viper-motored Integra image is pretty funny.
That black rotary Delorean makes the "sweat drip off my b_llz" (quoted from Little John)
I now have sick thoughts about a 3 rotor 911.
Back in the 80's I remember a guy that had transplanted a rotary into a 356 from Martin SCC in Orlando.

Last night while cruising through the local craigslist listings, there was a nice looking '91 911 Carrera...the next ad was for a '68 suburban that had a lot of, shall we say, patina. The suburban was $2.5k and the 911 was something in the teens....I was more excited about the suburban and I was wondering what was wrong with me. The 911 looked good and was something I could buy if I wanted it badly enough - it just had no interest to me. But something about a big boxy rusty rough looking suburban really made me think.
New 911's are nice, but I don't loose any sleep over them as they are too far out of my price range to even pay attention to - I can appreciate the heck out of them, but other than that they might as well exist only on some island full of unicorns since I won't have one.

I could get behind that.
For motivation, youtube "20b AE86."
I don't see any ban reason either. I do like my '88 911, I might even consider another one (coupe this time) but I'm not interested in anything newer than a 964. The only 944 I actually like is the 3l S2, the other ones also make me go meh.
That said, I'm also trying (again) to find the semi-holy grail of automotive design; something that you can track and also use as a DD in the summer. Might be another Miata, might be a C4, might be an NSX if I get a really decent job. But I'll have to reduce the number of projects I have on the go - I found that I hardly drive anything because there's yet another §%$=§%$=!`!!! thing that needs fixing and I want to get away from that. Well, a little. Especially given that I probably have to get a winter beater/truck anyway.
Hey Boost... I drive a silver Dodge Stratus rolling hubcaps and a white Dodge Caravan.
If ANYONE should be banned for life it should be >> THIS GUY!! <<

Unless I miss my guess, that's a guy in Blighty who is sticking a Minor body on top of a Miata drivetrain and suspension. I saw the thread last year so it's probably finished by now. The same guy has done some other crazy Morris creations as well.
I'll probably get teh ban hammer as well because Porsches just don't thrill me either. Don't ask me why, they just don't. Even the 914 I restored wasn't really what I wanted. I sold it to get back into Brit stuff (and that probably says more about the inner workings of my head than I really should release ).
