But FB and the website will hit different people. So you mirror them. If you post a new customer to FB, you also add them to the news feed on your site. Helps keep the site fresh and changing, which helps attract repeat visitors and helps with search rankings as well. It's how we treat our build diary updates - Instagram, Twitter, FB and the site all get them, and they all reach different people. The site is the stickiest of the bunch, so I think it's best for the new customers.

I'm not saying you want to recreate FB, but you do want to make any visitors to your site feel good about the community that exists around your company (implied or otherwise).

How many men think marketers understand them?

Having spent a lot of money on two websites, I can offer some input.

Make the phone number clickable as many women will have done the research when they were pregnant. They may only be dropping by to get a hold of you so make it super easy. Big red clickable phone number on every page.

Push the green thing hard. It works. Leave questions about who is greenest for someone else. Blow your horn hard.

Find a way to convince customers you are better than your competition. THE Best...THE most...THE fastest etc. If you say it they will believe it. And then deliver of course.

Along those lines - set yourself apart with a premium product (SVreX's suggestion of dedicated diapers for each child is an example) or exceptional service. Don't try to compete on price alone. There will always be someone $5 cheaper.

Actually, I agree with SVREX entirely on this. I think you want to build relationships with the mommy bloggers in the area and tap into their community. Absolutely nobody wants to read a diaper service blog, and blogs are a E36 M3load of work. You've already got a E36 M3load, in that business.

I like the mommy bloggers idea.

How about a free week of service for any mommy blogger that writes a little about the service? Or better yet, a coupon for a night out- that way it wouldn't just be the young mommy bloggers who could get a perk.

These are all good thoughts. I was just throwing stuff up for the whole blog thing. It may get kicked at some point.

On competition, there isn't any. There were services in my area years ago but nothing in the last decade. Cloth diapers have really made a comeback in the last few years and I think that there is room for it in our area. Pricing was determined just based on what others charge in different areas of the country.

On the premium products side, I am investigating some really neat fabrics specifically designed for diapers called Zorb. Not finding any premade options with this fabric so I may have to make/hire all the inserts ourselves. I am heavily leaning towards hire as I have enough stuff to do.

Yeah, free stuff for them is great but the free night out thing may come off a little weird. "Hey, talk about my product and I will watch your kid for free one night" (says random stranger).

Mommy bloggers and prebuilt communities is definitely what I was thinking for "building a community." I know that I can't start something on a diaper service alone. I have been trying to get my wife to actually get out there as she is definitely the face of the company but she is being the worst kind of procrastinator even though this is her idea!

SVreX wrote: a campaign like "Less time with diapers, means more time with babies". Offer a free week of service to anyone who brings you a referral through FaceBook. Have videos of Dads enjoying their kids more because of less stress when the household budget is relieved. ... Here's an idea... How about a segregated personalized service? Could you set it up so the SAME diapers were always returned to the SAME customer? The selling point would be, "Why would anyone want their child to wear someone else's used diapers?". Do it like a rented uniform service- clean and return the same (marked) diapers, and replace when they are beyond their useful life.

Just reread this post and let it sink in. I like the "less time cleaning, more time with baby" idea, a lot. That would be a great selling point. If you guys have seen the latest version of the sight, I didn't even bother with a cost comparison in "Why Cloth" on the main page. There is a link to a comparison at the bottom of the pricing page but I can't sell this service on price (mainly) so making it a big deal isn't worth my time (as mentioned, thanks gang).

My wife did cloth for three kids. It was actually not a lot of work. She used some kind of liner that caught 90 percent of it and got flipped into the garbage. The only bad ones were the occasional explosion that nothing was going to help. I called those ones "E36 M3 from tits to shoulderblades"

Woah, woah, woah... I really didn't mean you offer baby sitting!

I meant offer a coupon for dinner for 2 at a nice restaurant. By all means, let them figure out their own baby sitting!

Offering free service says "Think about poopie diapers". Offering a coupon to a restaurant says, "You are special, you deserve a night off".

Offering free baby sitting service says. "Watch out- I am a total creep!".

Yeah, I have seen those liners. Sort of takes me out of the loop though. There are several thousand people in my area that use cloth diapers (per facebook and some are probably not needing them at the moment). I want the people who are on the fence and can afford to pay someone for this service. I look at it like lawn mowing, lots of people pay for that and it is damn near as expensive as this and takes WAY less time.
