It's pretty dang hard to fool the laws of physics: to make power you got to burn fuel. A rotary can be leaned out for fuel mileage- to a point. Then, just like a boinger motor, things begin to fry.
How the hell do people do these things?
Not hating on the Rotary I just wish they would debug them. I love the way they run and make more since (in the physics of inertia since) than a piston engine.
I know they do well with most fuels too.

I bear no particular ill will towards rotarys...unless I'm gridded beside one. Then I wish fervently for their apex seals to come out the pipes and somehow kill the driver who won't shut the stinking thing off.

I think that's the real reason the LS swap became so popular.
