Lordy do I remember that era. I had an original RC10, when I got done with it the only thing Associated left was the suspension mount blocks. It was an A&L trailing arm chassis, MIP transmission, Paragon shock towers, Kyosho shocks (they were longer than the stock Associated stuff), Litespeed motor heat sink, etc etc etc.
Not my car but very similar:
I also had a Schmacher CAT. The damn thing was typically British, fast as stink and handled like a wet dream- when it was running. If you looked at it crosseyed or breathed wrong, weird things happened. Again not my car but very similar:
It was loaded with all kinds of cool features; the rubber band allowed the suspension to pivot back on a pin if you hit something then it would snap back into place. The front drive axle had one way bearings so that when you let off the throttle it would freewheel, making it turn like nobody's business. The bearings had good quality rubber seals insted of the stainless steel shields most cars had, meaning the bearings never got full of dirt and trash. But it still just had weird things happen, such as the front diff would slide back on acceleration causing it to throw the front drive belt. There's another $25 and about 45 minutes of disassembly/reassembly.
I quit with R/C and got back into dirt bikes because, no lie, it was CHEAPER.

The Schumacher Cat was awesome back in the day, but your right RC is EXPENSIVE. Like Challenge money and still not competitive expensive.
Associated RC10 B44.2 Factory Team Kit.
What is required to complete the kit?
REQUIRES: 2-ch radio w/high-torque steering servo, ESC, motor, saddle style battery, charger, pinion gear, building & track equipment.
All in all for your first race weekend you are into that unit, stone stock, no spares, optional ratios, springs shocks or anything for about a grand, WITHOUT THE MOTOR!
In reply to Flight Service: I just got done building sct10, I wanted to do some thing different with this build so I did the GRM thing to do; I did it all with second hand running gear the chassis was $80, the esc was $60(Novak gtb) the motor and receiver where $50 (the motor is a speed passion 13.5 and spectrum receiver) and I had a Traxxas servo laying around, so I have lol truck running for just under $200,...witch isn't to bad

that is actually really good! How's it run?
In reply to Flight Service:
The sct10 is a hoot, once I put some better tires on the rear it should be able to do wheelies, run times are around ten minutes with a lipo pack, this will be my first season running it, we will also be doing an enduro race with out Short Course Trucks at our local track this summer. Tonight my team and I (my eight year old daughter) are helping gettin track ready for the upcoming season.
