Boot camps, school, I was sent to a brand new sub in Groton, CT not long after high school. First outing to test depth, a guy made a pencil mark on a pole every 100 feet as we went down. Did an emergency blow (ala Big D); holy crap the tube collapsed inside another one about an inch and a half!

I keep thinking a bunch of railroad paint schemes would make good race livery...

They are harder than they need to be. As if changing a tire on the side of the road wasn't bad enough, try to slide a bolt into a recess on a wheel and thread it into a hole and hope the rotor didn't move in the process blocking the hole just enough to stop the bolt from threading. Or hang the wheel on protruding studs and start the nuts like the rest of the world.
Anyone realize these are bolts not lugnuts?

It was also invented by people that still think it’s ok to hold wheels on with bolts. I’ll take freedom units over lug bolts any day.
Holding wheels on with bolts is the superior way to do it. Even if you don't live where the exposed ends of studs will rust, a lug nut will get its threads pinched by the taper and cause the torque to be inconsistent and inaccurate.
Germany is known for its anal-retentive engineering. Gernan cars universally use lug bolts. I rest my case.

Hey look, it's a German car that doesn't use a bolt to hold the wheel on. Wonder if it's because using a nut is faster/easier.

knurled does not post a hotlink in the hotlink thread. Will does. Therefore Will's argument wins. The great wheel nut vs bolt debate has been decided once and for all! hooray!

I really don't understand people's hate for lug bolts. They really aren't that hard to use
Yes they are. Not impossible, no, but highly annoying.

Not as ugly as '70s Pontiac door handles, by any means (sorry for lame pic):

Last time I checked, Brackley and Brixworth are in the UK. https://www.mercedesamgf1.com/en/mercedes-amg-f1/amg-f1-car/car-f1-w08-eq-power/

If wheels falling off was a big problem I'd expect bolts to be more common. So far I've only encountered them on German cars, Fiats, and a E36 M3ty old camper trailer my neighbors used to have. Lug nuts seem to work fine for the other 99.99999999999999999999% of the planet
