Colt 45's? I could see the Desert Eagle used in the films, but the comics seem to indicate something a bit more modern. (not that there is anything wrong with the Colt!)

The USA is actually very careful with nukes compared to some other countries. I wonder what we haven't heard about.

The incident I linked is what helped to make us careful. The bomb they did recover WOULD have gone off if a component hadn't experienced a failure. It had deployed it's parachute in preparation to detonate and everything.
The one that is still there had a parachute failure and hit the ground hard enough that after digging down 100 feet they just kind of gave up trying to get it, put a cement cap over it and pretended it never happened until 2013 when the information declassified.
