Huh? Maybe I haven't shot enough pistols but is it really? Cause the .45 1911s I have shot are some of the loudest guns I have ever shot.

Good luck getting .50 rounds after the apocalypse, or even .300 Win Mag or 9mm. Good old 12-Gauge rounds come in large boxes at your local K-Mart or Wal Mart. Stock up now and they will remain pretty easy to come by afterwards. Just look for a Ducks Unlimited sticker on vehicles in people's driveway and you know that house will have a few shells somewhere inside. Plus, you can break into the local WallyWorld and grab a few boxes, along with Twinkies!

Enlighten a rifle nerd. What's that?

I think Walmart sells those around here. Along with about 5 high quality 223 AR15's, like Colt, Sig, etc.

Then you've never shot a 2"bbl .357 or .38spl +P. THOSE are the loudest pistols I have ever shot. the .357 kicks like a damn mule too. I have wanted one of the .357 snubbies to go with my .38. That way, if I miss, my attacker will still be blind and deaf giving me a chance to run or correct my aim!

Now, load a +P+ .45 into a 3"bbl 1911 and it make BEAUTIFUL fireballs out the end of that short barrel.

However many sporting or target shells may not cycle the action on that beast. There is LOADS of 50BMG out there just gotta know where to look and not many people would have rifles for it. 300 Win is one of the most popular hunting calibers out there so quite a bit of that out there and most would choose something smaller, lighter and quieter to shoot so it should be available. Heck I have 200 rounds of the stuff and I havn't shot that rifle in a year, hopefully finish the rebuild this winter. Again 9mm one of the most popular rounds in the country stores around here sell it in 250 round boxes for like $70, buy a load now get more as you find dropped guns and packs and scrounge where you can.

Honestly in a zombie apocalyptic or any big time SHTF scenerio remember many people will be ded or incapacitated outright or close to it. There are more guns and ammo in this country than most people think. I know some people that have hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammunition and are capable and stocked to reload more. Even if they banned all guns and ammo tomorrow there would still be a significant number out there as not everyone would turn them in obviously and the number of people that wouldnt is growing. Not to mention we can always build AKs out of shovels

True. I have shot a 4" bbl .357 but never a snub nose.

For loud, try a 14" Contender in 223 sometime. People move away from you at the range. As a side note, you can also drill golf balls at 100 yards all day long with the thing.

You need to know where the Federal Law Enforcement offices are, the onw I work in is in an office building.

Also National Guard and Reserve buildings will be good places to scope out if TSHTF.

the .45 has nothing on a short barrel revolver, nor longer barrel compensated revolvers......and definitely not the Glock 33 I had(little bugger was really LOUD), rivaling snub revolvers....

i THINK the over all baddest thing at a gun range was watching a Full Auto HK .308 with a 12" bbl rockin and rollin' a 30 rd mag. Holy hell... the shock waves hit you in the chest at about 500 rds per minute. It was absolutely terrifying and exhilirating at the same time.

IIRC, the barrel adaptor lug to the oil filters is now a tax stamp item($200) stamp.....otherwise, black helicopters will be coming.

Just remember, all you need is a paper clip, some solder, and a bit of time and you can make any glock shoot really fast......also, you didn't hear that one from me either.

Ah, dammit, the wife's been interested in an AR. I may have to buy that S&W 15-22 for Christmas. And a half dozen mags. And a couple bricks of ammo.

They are nice little guns and are quite light. Personally I prefer an actual AR with a conversion bolt to drop in. That way you can switch between the two in about a minute.

Pros and cons of an AR in .22 vs .223? I'm guessing the former wins for civilian availability and low cost, the latter for performance. What am I overlooking?

Well, you're going up against zombies. The .22 would have a E36 M3 ton more availability, zombies need to be shot in the brain, and everybody knows they have soft skulls, so even at a good distance, disregarding possible accuracy issues, the .22 definitely has is perks.

The .223 ends up being very similar in the zomby world.

Power, range, accuracy, penetration ability...

.223 is plentiful on the civilian market you can go to anyplace that sells ammo and they will have it. 22LR specific guns can ONLY shoot 22. Get a regular AR chambered in .223/5.56 and you can do a drop in conversion for 22LR. Great for practice or small game hunting with the 22LR, protection and predator hunting and even deer with the .223 in some states.

freeze plugs? Um... I suppose if you pack them into 55g drum full of nitro they would make a hell of a cool mess out of the 1st 500 or so closest to the drum.
