Fixin to install my accuform dash cap in the 95 silverado over lunch.

Accuform ships with clear silicone rtv for adhesive, and reccomends just doing edges. They say this is to allow for differing rates of expansion and contraction in materials.

The cap is plastic, about .030 thick. Dash is also plastic, but right at 1/8.

Do i go with silicone, and follow manufacturer reccomendations, or epoxy in place with thorough beads over entire surface like i think would make a better solution?

Ive repaired all the current cracks with epoxy, and will sand the two surfaces with 80 grit to promote adhesion.

From a 30 year career in the plastics industry, I would go with their directions. Their advice is valid and recommended. Not sure what the cap is but different expansion rates will cause their cap to buckle and/or crack if completely bonded to the underlying structure. They have seen it before and have had PO’d customers.  I would follow their advice.

Silicone will flex and their suggestion will allow it to move.  If anything, get some thin single sided felt or cloth tape to stick to the old dash before installing it to fend off any rattles or looseness that may develop.  Test fit it first!  Good luck!
