oh man, did i screw up hard. i bought a suburban last november, see all of that here: https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/off-topic-discussion/headline-die-hard-ford-man-buys-a-gm-no-signs-of-regret/108183/page1/

what a piece of junk. engine issues, suspension issues, more engine issues, electrical problems, AHH, what a E36 M3 box.

so i traded it in, took a pretty nasty bath on equity, but i had to dump the thing before it got more worthless.

now i drive this:

and next to my 85 turbocoupe:

it a 2013 f-150. 5.0. 6 speed auto. 4x4. XLT. middle of the road on options. it has sync and power windows and key less entry, but no cameras or leather or power sliding window. i went for the 5.0 for a couple of reasons. one, money. the ecoboosts were the same price as this one, with 70-80k miles on them, this one has 39k. also, knowing my history with modified boosted cars, it wouldn't be long before i started messing with it, and thats not a good idea. plus, being a used buyer, i dont want to have to replace direct injectors or turbos. ever. if this was a lease or a new truck, sure, no problem. trade it off in 5 years with 60k on it. but i thought after all the issues i had with ride control systems, fancy engine trickery and other gizmos a do-dads that failed and cost alot of money to fix, i needed a v8 4x4 truck with cloth seats and minimal electronic crap to fail. i also needed a bumper to bumper warranty, which i have until 100k. i love the truck, its not possible to overstate the power that 5.0 makes, or the sound for that matter. the 6 speed is incredibly smooth as is the ride considering its a big 9k towing truck.

so thats it for now. im sorry Ford. i wandered off the path for a moment, (it cost me $7K) and im sorry. i will never buy another GM again.

I've spent enough trying to keep Fords on the road in one year to pay cash for a new CTS-V. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Good luck with the Furd.

I would concur, except I've managed to nuke 2 of the apparently indestructible 22Rs, personally.

That's why I drive an AMC!

Congratulations Jon, that's a damn fine truck. Also, 85 TC? Is that Goldie's nose?! Where's the blue one?

Oh, and I'm with you 1000%, I finally dumped our last GM. NEVER again! !!

Hey man glad to see your back to the fray.

I like the Suburban I really do. Nice platform, but GM has just got to stop cutting corners. The last few models have just seem surface nice and a time bomb waiting to happen.

The last three Ford pickups in my family all were well over the quarter million mile mark before they got sold with nothing more than normal maintenance.

Ford does trucks like nobody else. Toyotas are nice, but at 200,000 they seem just as worn out as the Ford. Don't see the reason for the extra money.

Congrats on the new truck. Just one question, are you going to put the Boss 302 manifold on it? I hear it is a very cheap and easy way to get more power and fuel economy with almost no trade offs.

Ford would build a decent truck if not for those useless OHC engines. Thirsty or gutless, there is no middle ground. I suppose its theoretically possible the 5.0 is better, but I'll hold off for a few years, I think.

Too many rattley 5.4's rolling through the shop these days.

Try the 5.0, it is neither. I am not a Triton fan (they would run awhile but yeah, down on power for the fuel drank,) but with the Coyote they got it right. Stingy and stout.

At the old shop we bought new 5.0s and they would walk the 5.3s and got better fuel economy.

i didn't think so, but i really have no idea. i didn't research this much, except to know half the males in my family drive 2012+ ford trucks. i had to dump the 'burb RIGHT NOW and get into something new enough to swallow the negative equity that was building, or i was going to be stuck with it, and have to cop for a new engine and possibly a suspension component of unknown origin. its ok though, i get to learn new stuff every week about my truck for awhile, cause i know literally nothing about it.

we dont have them, but a guy in the deep south (GA or Miss or something) has johns black and blue one. the black one is a BEAST. he dumped a E36 M3 load of cash in it. the blue one is a parts car. goldie got scrapped 5 years ago when i left AZ, too much bondo on both rear quarters, the car had been totaled twice and re-vinned. it was bent so bad from the drag racin' that the doors wouldnt close and the trunk would pop on a 2-step launch. i miss her daily.

I didn't ask, buckets for the front seats or split bench with fold down center?

The next truck I buy will have two things the ability to seat 6 and no carpet/covered carpet. I would rather have a rubber mat.

yeah i learned my lesson with the Snaab. AFM ate itself, i swapped in a non AFM motor. luckily there was no loan, paid cash. with the avalanche being broken and paying the bank while paying for new parts, that was hardcore suck.

i'm done with 99+ gm trucks unless i'm pirating LS swaps for other vehicles. you will not catch me dead in a ford though, i learned my lesson a long time ago and will never make the blue oval mistake again.

Man, any pickup that could survive my 20's (300k on the clock and still coughin up blood)

jmthunderbirdturbo: Man, I didn't have the heart to tell ya in your last thread. The 90's seem to be a bad time for Ford. I had a 5-liter Bronco, a 5-liter F150, and a F250 with a 5.7.

The Bronco and F150 were underpowered unreliable turds, and the F250 was a BEAST but only when it decided to start. The darn thing would do this thing where it would "crank, no fire" on a stinking whim and you never knew when it would "decide" to start again. It could be a day, an hour, or once it was a WEEK! None of the Ford techs could figure that one out (but boy did I pay them to try). My grandfather (a die-hard Ford guy since the '50s) went through enough problems with his 1990 F250 that he went Toyota Tundra.

Anyhoo, I felt kind of bad because you went from what I consider "Bad-era Ford" to what now I consider "bad-era GM". These days, I really think Ford makes the better vehicle.

Welcome back buddy

The Ecoboost engines are all DI. For a few more years, at least.

The 5.0l is not an Ecoboost engine.

Oh, and I've not heard of any reliability things specifically to the DI or the turbo systems.

Gotcha, it's the naturally aspirated v6 that is still port injection then?

Nice. In a few years, the next new vehicle I buy will be an aluminum F150. Regular cab with an 8 ft bed, 4x4. No body rust, lightweight, powerful, decent on fuel. Not much more to ask for except 3 pedals and nobody is giving me that these days in that size truck without a diesel.

its an XLT work truck but with the chrome pack and sync, so its a 60-40 with the fold down. i DESPISE center consoles with my long ass legs, always banging my knee into something, plus i hate loosing the extra seat. i would love vinyl or rubber floors, but the carpet is black and i have big rubber mats in it so, its good enough. i like the power the 5.0 has. so far im averaging 17, but i admit to having some trouble keeping my foot out of it.

ill update in a few weeks when i get to know her better.

she still needs a name, btw, and i suck at that, so im open to suggestions.
