So I just found this at Target and I don't really know where to check but answer me this: which version is this? Diehard Star Wars fans will know what I mean...

Sadly, Han does not shoot first in that version. The theatrical cuts are not available on any digital media right now, as far as I know. They did come out on DVD at one point, a friend of mine has them. But anything new is going to be Lucasized.
Don't take this as gospel, but I believe it is the most bastardized and edited version that good old Chinless Lucas cooked up before selling to the mouse.
Last I read, the only way to get a non-messed-with version was on VHS, and they command a pretty penny on eBay.
*edit. Buy it, If it turns out to be an older edit that Disney has released on DVD I'll buy a few copies.
Pssst, if you look around online you can find a video file of a fan remastered scan of the actual 1977 theater release film. And damn right Han shoots first in that one.
Han shot first in 1977. He had to. Guido was going to kill him. Guido got the drop on Han, had the gun pointed at him, but had to go and run his mouth while Han was quietly undoing the safety on his gun and he shot Guido through the table top.
If Guido had shot first Han would be dead because no bounty hunter would miss from 3 feet away.
No bs "code of the west" from the cowboy "B" movies.

I actually purchased a set of that edition on eBay and they were advertised as the first theatrical Edition release but sadly I never checked them and they were not. That was a very expensive mistake...

Laserdisc did it too. I had a set.
There is indeed exactly ONE non-special edition DVD release of A New Hope where Han shoots first. It was a box set of all three original trilogy, gold leaf looking.
I should know, I own one!
Just so you know, if you didn't see it in the first few weeks in 77, you haven't see "the original." Lucas went back and remastered Williams soundtrack.
So...apparently, he's been doing that since the beginning.
I just want my nub-nub back, dammit.

Yup. You can download a remastered 1080p version of the original cuts. Do it.

I THOUGHT I did! Honestly I think the guy repackaged the wrong discs in the set because they're all from the run that you're referring to.

I'm looking now...
If you want the absolute best version of the OT, seek and download Harmy's De-specialized editions. They're free and free of Lucas' tinkerings. The story of how these versions came to be is interesting as well.
Here's a compressed version of Star Wars:

Considering I am not good about using the streaming services I am currently paying for (mainly Netflix), no.
I split with my ex for Disney (effectively we got an account for our son). 3 years pre-purchased with a discount and it came out to <$2 a month for me.
You'll need to log in to post.
