SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (WPIX) - Talk about going out in style. The family of a 22-year-old Puerto Rican man, who was the victim of a fatal shooting, opted out of displaying their loved one in the traditional casket at his wake.
Instead, mourners were taken aback when they arrived to the funeral home to see the man's corpse propped up on a Honda CBR600 F4 motorcycle sporting a long-sleeved t-shirt, shades and a baseball cap.
According to family members, David Morales Colón was a motorcycle fanatic and would have found the unusual wake fitting.
The motorcycle that Colon was displayed on was a gift from his uncle and was delivered to the funeral home specifically for his wake, reports said.
"He loved his motorcycle. It made him feel free from his worries," a mourner told a local San Juan newspaper. "We all know he will be happy riding for eternity."
The Marin Funeral Home in San Juan where the wake was held, has made headlines before for its highly unorthodox wakes. In 2008, the funeral home reportedly kept the embalmed body of a 24-year-old man standing throughout a wake that lasted three days.
Colon, who was laid to rest Thursday, was murdered last week in his San Juan neighborhood.
