Do we have a preferred insulated drink bottle?

I don't know all the Yeti names, but I wish that they made the screw top for the one without the handle. 

Yetis actually keep stuff too hot for too long, so I prefer the screw top to let the heat out. I tend to put the top on and off a bunch of times, and the press on Yeti tops are too hard to remove, but they come on my preferred no-handle mugs. 
 

I don't use insulated mugs for cold stuff, because I'm all about volume. I go through several 2 Ocean Spray bottles of water every day. I drink it so fast that I don't care if it's cold or not. 
 

I heart water.

I am not a huge brand snob but man - the Yeti stuff really is nicer.  I feel like I could dent some of the cheaper knockoffs.  The Yeti stuff is just so sturdy, and in the grand scheme of things not really that much more expensive amortized out over several years.

This is what I commute with, and it fits in the usual backpack water bottle holders and in most car cupholders. Also has a loop if you want to hook it to a backpack/belt with a carabiner. It's 24oz and keeps things cool for about 24hrs with ice, if not longer. We have one of those fancy Bevi machines at work, and it even keeps carbonated water carbonated for quite a while. It is sealed unless you hold the button down, and it has a cover for where you put your mouth. They are between $10-20 usually these days. 

Came to recommend these. Edit: after thinking about it, I wouldn't consider it 100% leak proof. Not to the extent that you would want for a camera bag. 

 

Wirecutter, The NY Times consumer product testing division recommends Takeya bottles. I bought these large ones, they come in lots of sizes and colors. I saved a few dollars on the black ones. I painted one after I was reminded that black wasn't a good choice for spending an hour working a corner in the sun. 
edit: these won't leak if you close them correctly.

I am also a fan of Owala. Got into them because they did a Harry Potter edition and I got one as a gift for my wife, but I really liked how their "FreeSip" lids work. Sip or drink, which for me really means that when I sip, the open area is big enough that I can actually drink a lot of water through the straw without sucking super hard.

My son introduced me to https://coldest.com/. Everybody got their own 32oz sport bottle last Christmas. Still ice in the bottle at the end of some pretty hot days at the baseball diamond. Highly recommended.

Thank you again for all of the suggestions, and after a few false starts, I got my new water bottle: the Owala FreeSip. I went with the 24-ounce size because if some water is good, then a little more is better. Of course, I got the black one. I even scored a coupon. 

Its first test came this weekend at the Daytona autocross. It was hot–like, really hot–and the bottle delivered as hoped: kept the contents cold without leaking. And, you know, I dig the sippy cup setup. 

The listing noted that the bottle is cup holder-friendly, but I forgot that not all cup holders are created equally.

Ahem.  Glad you like the Owala.  Agree that the sip feature is the best of the competitors.  Pro-tip.  Disassemble the rubber sealing piece (on the lid) when you clean the bottle.  It can get nasty behind there.

I've been using this one now for.... 5 years? Keeps drinks hot for hours. Coffee poured in at 7:30 is drinkable by 11-noon

Just popping in to say that we now have Stanley-esque insulated mugs available in the online store, along with your standard insulated stainless steel screw-top water bottles. Personally I like the screw-tops because they don't leak and I can toss them into whatever bag I'm carrying without worrying about spills, but as someone who loves drinking a big cold beverage with a straw, I've been considering jumping on the Stanley Quencher bandwagon.

Ah, nutz.  Just the GRM logo would have been fine on the screw top water bottle.  There is enough cursing in the world.
