Route the blower motor exhaust at the chute to heat it?
914Driver wrote: Is there some magic (not involving move a to Florida) that lets the ice pack blow out the chute easier?
As a straight answer, the key is to keep it moving. Don't shut the auger down with slush in the chute. Control your rate so it's neither too little to blow out, nor so much that it clogs. As you come out, keep the auger spinning until there is nothing more coming out.
It'll still clog, but not nearly as much.
Wow, I've never considered lubing the shoot before (I couldn't think of a better way to say that), I'll try it with the next snow.
I recommend "a new non-caloric silicone-based kitchen lubricant my company has been working on. It creates a surface 500 times more slippery than any cooking oil."
As for me, I have a general rule when it comes to my chute. It is only for things going out, and not for things going in, so I do not lube it.
Do the impeller mod. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=231002

You're a machinist.. you could make this in your sleep. http://smllengns.tripod.com/
Move velocity = less clog.
Russ
What usually happens, the slug of slush/ice stops between the blower and the chute. The blower keeps revolving but nothing gets to the chute.
I just read in this mornings paper, the ER's were busy with damaged fingers from trying to clear the clog without at least using a stick.
From experience, I doubt that any spray has much effect.

The only thing I hate worse then a clogged chute is a stupid web site (garagejournal.com) that makes you register in order to look at snowblower pics.
Whoa whoa whoa. Speaking Ill of garage journal here is akin to suicide.
I mean this website has the 12 gauge garage on the cover.

Oh good, apparently there are nine others, it's not just me.

I'm with ya here. I hate that sites want me to register just to see pics. Maybe I'm not a [insert subject here] geek, just want some info. I'm not going to register for this one occurrence.

FbC, he has a point. How ever useful that group is, it's also only useful if you are a member. So one is forced to do a more extensive google search.
So for those who could not see the pictures, the mod is basically putting some stiff rubber into the chute.
Wait, that came out wrong.
The rubber is there to seal the chute and clean it out.
Wait, that sounds bad, too...
Attach some re-enforced rubber strips on the impeller blades, either with self tappers or bolts. This seals the gap between the blade and the wall, which both cleans the wall as well as puts a lot of oomf behind the thrown snow. the Yt videos show that it's really effective in slushy snow.
I'm sure if you added lube to the chute, the stiff rubber would be even more effective.
Wait, that also sounds bad.
I moved South twenty years ago, so I have no useful input. But this question makes me wonder what would stop that blower Yamaha had for sale.. Maybe a partly frozen lake.

Nope nope nope. Garage Journal is too important to not have a log in to. I fully will not believe that member of GRM does not have a login to such a page. It is inconciveable, boarding on herecy.
Do you not like http://www.dogfightmag.com/ Or http://www.fordbarn.com/ Or http://www.gearjournal.com/ Or http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/ Yes.. The HAMB is part of the same complex.. same login..
Also I posted two other links that explain vintage snowblower mods and show it.. so this is a really stupid argument.
In reply to Fueled by Caffeine:
Which was nice to post, but it still took more searching to understand what they were talking about. Just sayn. It's a good mod- something that I may do to my blower too.
As for garage journal- no I'm not a member. The others? Never heard of them. This forum is diverse enough to answer all questions, thank you very much.
I think the answer is obvious:
http://www.amazon.com/Passion-Natural-Water-Based-Lubricant-Gallon/dp/B005MR3IVO
double (or triple) the driven speed and it becomes a snow/ ice howitzer
maybe as well as a brush chipper
no lube required
wear your safety goggles
For the rest of this season anyway, I have a crush 'n run driveway; rocks.
I can't keep sheer pins in it now!

Lower the skid shoes so you leave an inch or two of snow on the gravel.
So much awesome in this thread. I'll be researching this snow-howitzer mod for the rents snowblower over the holiday break.
You'll need to log in to post.
