It seems like every couple of years I go through an antique bicycle phase, but most of the stuff I'm really interested in is priced beyond what I would pay so it never goes anywhere.

Anyhow, it's come around again, and at the present moment I am wanting to know what the configuration below is called. I haven't been able to find any information about it over the six years or so I've had this pic on my HD. I know that it isn't a one-off because I have seen at least one other similarly-constructed bike, but for the life of me I can not find what word or phrase I need to use to look up other variations and figure out if they are ever sold and how crazy the prices are.

Honestly - it does not look that antique. It looks like the back half of a 1950s thru early 70s style "ordinary" bicycle and and a bad idea. I'm thinking Col. Sanders there owned a welder.

The configuration that we now think of as an ordinary modern bicycle has been around since the turn of the last century. See this Royal Enfield from 1902:

The Colonel's bike does have a coaster brake but those were invented in 1908 or so.

That's some sort of travel or airplane bike, much like the folding ones from the 70's. I'd bet there is quick releases on those handlebars to fold them down next to the frame for transport.

That's not a bicycle. That's the fastest known method of removing front teeth.

What you have there is a version of a Velocino, which interestingly enough means "small bike". Not all versions have the steering located under the legs.

Linky The ones I've seen were homebuilt.

So, you put your legs THROUGH the steering wheel, and hope to keep all your teeth, right?

I wonder if I could drive a car that way.

My first thought was "Deathtrap". I see I'm not alone.

I don't think I would want to gain much speed on one of those or more precisely wouldn't want to have to stop quickly from any sort of speed.
