Ok, I have had my Blackberry curve 8330 for 2 years now and love it, BUT, it's up for renewal in a month.

What I need the smart phone for is quick email response on the go (Corporate Exchange - Email/Calendar/Contacts)

How does the Droid Pro (well any Verizon 'Droid phone) compare to a blackberry on BES?

Any converts? or should I stick with with the BlackBerry?

Edit: I need a physically qwerty keyboard as well. touchscreens don't always work on my fingers

If business is your primary concern, stick with the BB. I've used both, and while Android is a great platform, BB OS has been optimized for business for YEARS, and they're the best at it.

Comparing a Blackberry to a Droid is like comparing Delta Burke to Brooke Burke

They're both "Burkes" that get the job done, but which one would you rather have?

I have a Droid X on Verizon and wouldn't trade it for gold. Its basically a laptop in your palm. Hold out for a month or so - Verizon is going 4G.

I gave my blackberry curve to a friend.

Droid x only has the touchscreen keyboard. Nice phone though, SWMBO just got one.

I got an lg ally with the keyboard when I upgraded earlier this year. I like the keyboard but probably would have sacrificed it for a larger touchscreen. I can't complain that the phone only cost me $50 though.

Scratch that. FedEx can't find their own ass with both hands sitting on it, much less my house.

Maybe tomorrow.

+1
I am in the business and needed to get a new phone recently. I had been using an early version Android for about a year for voice and a BB for email.
For this round I went with a Sprint's new OS6 BB and I have a midlevel Android as well. I find that nothing "works" like BB and the Android is fun to "play" with.

Currently, at VZW you have no choice for an OS6 BB. If you did I would recommend it. The Tour BB you are looking at will really be quite similar to your Curve so if familiarity is important you will be happy. The Tour does Wifi, has a better camera, pad not ball and more internal memory.

Given the choices at VZW you might like the new Android Pro which has a keypad which is pretty much a copy of BB keyboards.

To me, Android phones seem to require a lot of key strokes to just accomplish basic phone functions. Most notable is that every time you reach for the phone you have to swipe it to unlock the screen and/or every time you touch the phone you touch something by accident. This accidental touch takes you somewhere you do not want to be so then this results in the need to hit the back button a couple time before you can do what you really want to do.

Someone suggested waiting for VZW 4G to roll out. Their 4G will first roll out in Feb 2011 but GR, Mi is not part of that early roll out. If it gets to GR it will likely no be until the end of 2011, maybe 2012. Early roll coverage maps can be found on www.vzw.com

Our company is getting ready to renew our contract and this is the big issue.

Seemingly all of our exec's love their BB's, I'm an Android fan and our Director of IT is a MS junkie and preaching the WP7 gospel. We'll see what we end up with, I could live with WP7 but please don't force me to use a BB. ugh!

There is also the whole Apple rumors as well. I do not think that Apple will be going to VZW but I could be wrong. For sure, we will all know by Feb. That may be worth waiting for.

In reply to jrw1621:

Its possible. The iPad is already available on Verizon as a mobile broadband device.

True, it is possible.
Just to be clear, that iPad at VZW is the same exact pad that you buy anywhere. There is nothing built into it for VZW rather VZW packages it up with a MiFi Card. You can get a similar MiFi card from other retailers.

Overall, I stand behind my original statement:

I am a iPhone guy myself, but I have heard good things about the Android Phones and liked my Blackberry back in the day. The only advice that I can give is DO NOT go for the Win7 phone. I was a PC guy for years, and kept buying and waiting for the next Windows phone that would finally be worthwhile. They will not sucker me into buying their crap, I don't care if it poops gold.

If you want additional opions (ad nauseam) head over to www.howardforums.com which is the largest cell phone forum.

More insight can be gained from www.phonescoop.com who does very good product reviews, often in video format showing many of the practical features of a phone.

My Blackberry Tour 9630 stomped on Email, messaging, and clean and easy OS with everything right where you want it. I get yearly upgrades from Sprint and went with an HTC EVO 4G.

The Evo is a good phone. It looks awesome, the screen is great, the touchscreen works well (but I still prefer a real keyboard), the RF is way way better than my Tour, and the apps, the apps, the apps!

BUT...Its a cheap piece of crap. I have had mine 2 months, never dropped, never abused. The speaker on the back is dead (ordered a new one from EvoSpeaker.com, that should tell you something). The case is cracked near the power button. The case is chipped also.

So they both have their plusses. A Blackberry is comparable to an EVO or other high end Android phone the same way a featurephone is comparable to a Blackberry.

I still miss my Blackberry some days.
