Still, 180hp from a 1.7L is pretty rad. I'm amazed they could have done that and met emissions and reliability targets back then.

Correct.
Look for the guy alongside some clown in a gorilla suit.
Ha! Views of durocco.com went from 12 yesterday to 350 today.
Updating the site now since it's pretty spare on information.

actually have a question for you, did you guys make a way to vary the torque split between front and rear or is it 50/50 all the time?
amazing build btw!

Thank you and no, not yet. At the moment I have the rear throttle cable pulled by a falling rate cam (think lots of zip ties on an old cruise control pulley) so that the rear produces more power at part throttle. I have a few designs in my head for a variable throttle control setup, I don't love any of them enough to build one.
I would settle for a throttle percentage control for the front engine only since I always want the rear engine wide open.

sucks they didn't explain the "simple way" that vw controlled the torque split in that article, could have helped you out alot and I can definitely understand wanting the rear engine wot all the time lol, those parking lot donut videos on the site can attest to the fun it that lol oerall, amazing and inspiring job, makes me want to go ahead and go with the mid engine rear drive b18b crx instead of taking the "easy way out" with the lt1 rx7
I saw this yesterday, and all I could think of was the awesomeness that is the Durocco. One of my all time favorite Challenge cars.
Anson, the EASY way is to add a turbo to each engine then add two boost control devices ;)
Moar MAOR turboez, yo!
I would love-diddly-dove a turbo on just the rear engine, I'm way too cheap to buy a proper turbo/management/plumbing and much too lazy to build a cheap setup. 1.8t in the back would probably be the smartest solution, I can't stand the 1.8t though so that's out.

Sorry for slightly derailing this topic... I used to have a set of those wheels. They were really light. Anyone know what they are?
