Fined $100M?
Um, how about instead we shut them down and put the execs in jail?
This is the kinda crap that allows the enrons of the world to ruin everybody's retirement.

I used to date a woman who was a CPA there. She was sexually harassed and then "asked to leave" with a nice severance package. I can't really go into detail but from what I understand it is a strange place to work and not a very good place for women. They really messed with her head. Search Google for Ernst and Young and sexual harassment cases if you want to know more.
So, part of their "punishment " for cheating on ethical exams is that they have to audit themselves? Who comes up with this E36 M3?

the people with the money, and the people with whom they share that money.
I don't know. If you could hire an accounting firm that was "soft" on ethics, and was held to blame for anything it was caught doing... seems like a good options for a company.
So... a feature.

Pretty much what America has announced to the world over the last 20 years. Also for sale.

Let's be realistic here: America is in NO WAY unique in this aspect!
(pretty much how the world works really)

Sounds like when I was a dish bitch for the Sam's Club meat department. Eco-Lab was our health inspector. Guess who supplied the meat department with cleaning products, specifically dictated by Eco-Lab, the health inspector? Eco-Lab cleaning products.
I asked my manager if this wasn't a definition of conflict of interest. They looked at me like I was a math probm.
Ernst & Young is really on a roll lately. For those interested, do some reading about the Wirecard scandal; somehow an EY audit failed to capture 1.9 billion Euros missing from Wirecard's balance sheet despite a paper trail going back many years. You can probably guess how severely EY was punished for their total and complete failure to do their job.

I did about two years working for a fintech firm and I never want to do any work related to the finance or accounting industries ever again. Just miserable, soul-sucking places to work, with extremely toxic executive culture.

I knew a young woman who was a numbers wiz who worked there. At 25 years old, beautiful, very fit, decently strong Puerto Rican accent and smarter than 95% of them. She couldn't make it a year. It was that bad. On top of the sexual harassment, no one took her serious enough for her to be effective at her job.
She's 29 now and working at a place that values her. She made over 300k last year and hasn't stepped foot in an office.

I assume the individuals who cheated also lost their licenses to practice accounting, if not permanently at least for a number of years. They most likely also had to pay fines out of their own pocket. Licensing boards tend to not have a sense of humor about that sort of thing.
The president of a company decides to hire a new accountant. After considerable effort, the candidate pool is narrowed down to three finalists, who are all called in for an interview.
The president calls the first candidate into his office, has him sit down, and asks him "What's two plus two?". The guy looks at him like he has lost his mind and says "Four...?". The president thanks him and says he will be in touch.
The president calls in the second candidate, has her sit down, and asks her "What's two plus two?". She looks at him in disbelief and answers "Four!". The president thanks her and says he will be in touch.
The president then calls in the third candidate, has him sit down, and asks him "What's two plus two?". The guy looks at him, stands up, walks to the door, opens it to ensure no one is there, and carefully closes it. He then walks over to the window and pulls down the shade. Finally, he walks over to the president's desk, leans over and asks in a whisper "What do you want it to be?"
