Curious on how this is going to turn out
SAN FRANCISCO —
In San Francisco, TV crews are filming a re-creation of one of the most famous movie chases ever that was originally shot in the city.
On Wednesday, crews from the popular Fox show Alcatraz shot part of a reenactment inspired by the famed pursuit from the classic Steve McQueen film Bullit. Over and over again, the sound of screeching tires could be heard as stunt cars spun out.
The director and camera crew from the Fox series spent hours filming on Bay and Larkin streets, trying to recapture one of the most iconic scenes ever filmed in San Francisco. The chase from the 1968 film has been called one of the greatest chase scenes of all time.
"To be a part of something, that's paying respects, that I feel good about." said actress Sarah Jones. "But no one can fill Steve McQueen's shoes."
Jones plays detective Rebecca Madsen in the show, but her stunt double tackles the chase scenes.
"We're just trying to recreate every single shot and add some more -so a lot of sliding around the corners, a lot of getting close to things," said stunt driver Jack Gill.
"They knew exactly the streets we need to recreate the car chase, so we're actually on some of the streets, which is fun," said director Jack Bender.
But the tight streets and sharp inclines pose challenges at high speeds.
"It's really easy to drive around slow, but when they say come around it at 70 miles an hour, it's a little different." said Gill.
Thursday the crew moves to Taylor street for the third and final day of filming. These scenes can be seen on the season finale Monday, March 26th on KTVU Channel 2.

On the surface, this seems awesome. In reality it will likely be terribly disappointing.
They didn't use a Highland Green Mustang?
Lol-the entire scene through the city was only really about 3-4 shots filmed from 27 angles. Should take no more than a morning to film.

I'll wait for the youtube clip.

The lady in the show drives a green stang. Not sure why they wouldn't use that one.
I used to live in a flat on Columbus Ave. In the original chase, there are just a few frames of my place visible in one shot. It was kind of neat.
I hope they have a new Beetle that appears over and over again!
Nice 2013 Mustang there...

Modern Chargers don't have hubcaps... how are they going to make it lose five of them?
I knew the bastards were going to try it when the lady detective in the show drove around in a Highland Green fastback. It's been in a short chase already.

I also don't think the Mustang is going to have any issues getting away from the Charger this time around either.
You know, for years now there have been rumors of a remake of Bullitt with Brad Pitt playing Frank Bullitt, which I would love to see. But in the meantime, any kinda of homage chase scene that gets made is welcome. ;)

I'd like to see how they pull it off.

with CGI..
I doubt it, even as cheap as CGI is, sometimes it's still cheaper to film actual live action scenes.

Nothing is "pulled off" with CGI. CGI scenes make me lose all interest in what is being depicted. It never looks "right". It's just a fancy cartoon.
CGI sucks. If you're going to do a cartoon, do an actual cartoon.

Brad Pitt playing Bullitt? Ew, no way.
Maybe Daniel Craig.
That car is gonna be scraping all over the place.
Well... wasn't too bad. Got the Beetle down pretty good. Still prefer Steve McQueen though...

You know what's missing? In Bullitt, McQueen et al were actually trying to drive the cars quickly. That's what makes it work. In this, they're resorting to typical Hollywood oversteer shots. The sounds are good though, the tire noise is right. Someone needs to fix the ABS on the Mustang though, it's not working properly
And I'm with Lesley. Daniel Craig would make a great Bullitt.
I thought it was good. TV doesn't have the money to go balls out unlike the movies. I'm glad glad glad the Mustang was manual AND they actually showed her using it.
My complaints are:
1) Both cars were shedding underside parts
2) She didn't stick her head far enough out the window when she had to back up.

I'm not a huge fan of the Dodge, but I really noticed how much more competent the new cars looked hooning around the city than the floppy, wallowy originals.
The new Mustangs are definitely growing on me.
