I just discovered there's a deal on a "Gear Pro" 720p camera on Woot today for $40. I took a gamble and ordered one, and I figured some of you guys/gals may be interested. It may be a total piece of crap, but I figure it's probably not any worse than my $40 Sony that's stuck to my redneck rollbar camera mount.
Here's the link.

Ordered. Worth a try at that price. Thank you, Pete.
Another gambler here...
This appeals to the cheap bastard in me. Thanks.
I like that. I just lost my brand new gopro due to a faulty mount. $200 smashed all over the New York Thruway.
Reviews/comments on woot aren't super encouraging but at $40 it's almost worth the risk.
Says the battery lasts an hour, and you can't charge it via usb while it's recording.
I put my Gear Pro to the test today at the autocross. I was a bit concerned about the suctions cup mount at first. It stuck to the windshield fine, but the left-right tilt axis wasn't very tight and I was afraid the camera would fall over at the first corner. Not to worry, it help up just fine. The video quality isn't great, but I didn't try cleaning the lens or the case either. The sound is almost nonexistent except for bumps on course.
All in all I can't complain for a $40 camera. Here's a sample vid from today.

another woot deal - no zombie - http://www.woot.com/offers/gear-pro-720p-or-1080p-sport-action-cam they've got the 720p for $40 and a 1080p option now for $60. I got the 720p one last time and can confirm petegossett's review, same experience and its got a short battery life. held up well at indoor karting where I didn't tighten the mount well enough and started to flop back and forth a bit.
Thanks, Pete, about what I expected. Haven't tried mine yet but it will be a good starter cam.
I want to say that the 1080p camera is a good deal. I've seen it being sold for $100 by other retailers as a Pyle branded camera.
Well FWIW I haven seen mine since the last autocross...which I'm afraid means I left it in the tote with all my other autox gear in storage with the Miata. So we'll see if it survived the arctic winter, once it actually warms up enough to go search for it. :D
Works pretty well for me:

Tempted to buy it from Amazon for $10-$20 more for a warranty. Couple reviews on Woot mentioned a remote with the 1080, but no mention in the details/specs.
