Garage door screens

Anyone have a screen door for their garage?

Thinking that it would be fairly useful to keep bugs out at night, but still allow the doors to be opened.

Looks like they range from simple screens that velcro or hang from the header to fancier ones that can even be on tracks.

Who has one, what type do you have and how do you like it?

the warehouse I worked at in the past had them. It had a funky track set up, probably not easy to do DIY style. In the up position, the screen was on its own track, separate from the actual door. It could only be down when the door was up, and vice versa. There was a magnetic gizmo that locked out whichever one was up, and directed the door that was down back into its own track when raising it.

It was great for allowing draft to come in when the temps went up, but it didnt seal out bugs and the like around the edge all that well.

I think there would be a way to remove a section of the door and have a screen in its place kinda like a storm door. Or the simple velcro route you mention seems pretty reasonable too.

I've got some very nice ones that my wife got me as an anniversary present a couple years ago. I don't know what the brand was, but I think it was garagedoorscreens.com. Harbor Freight has a PRC-made version but I haven't looked at it.

They're very nice: you put in velcro around the garage door and then you zip the screens in place. With about 10 bucks at the hardware store, they show you how to build a pulley system to roll them up and down. They go on the outside frame so that you can actually leave them deployed while still being able to open and close the door -- good for a project bay.

Mine have been up for about 3, maybe 4 years now and are in great condition.

Thanks for the link. My garage is under the main living area, so more ventilation while doing smelly things the better, but at night time the bugs come inside to the light. Would be nice to have screens.

I am replacing the sliding doors on my barn with roll up garage doors but I plan to use the sliding door track for framed screens next year.

Seems like there should be a way to. Build a screen roller into or attached to the bottom panel of a garage door such that once the door is up the screen would roll out from there and down the garage door track.

My father made one for his attached one car garage out of 1 X 2"s and just pulled screen over it. Staple, trim and paint. It was a two piece affair hinged in the middle so it was easy to get up and down for rolling stuff in and out.

At a "certain age" he just left it in place, kept a picnic table in the garage and had a nice little breezeway for the summer.

MIL has one of the fancy ones on tracks. It's got several panels, and seems to work well, although it gets hard to drag all of them closed once you've had them all opened up. Looks just like this:

That was why one of the reasons I moved. Now if I leave my garage open overnight my biggest concern is a skunk wandering in.

bringing back a zombie thread as I couldn't find a more current discussion, and this still seems relevant, and curious what might've become available with your experiences in the last 7 years?  

My new house where we moved last fall is near a lake, and with lakes come bugs.  We have a detached garage across the road with a 2-car door on the front of it that I would like to put a screen across for wrenching in the evening and getting airflow without the influx of mosquitoes and such.  

I use bugspray or light some citronella candles which is okay, but keeping them out in the first place would be ideal as it's annoying having all the moths/mayflies around the lights, and then dying and  falling on the cars below.  We do park in this garage at least one car any given day, so ease of removal/opening would be nice.  We also have a side man door, so I don't need to go in and out through the screen once in place.  

Magnetic?  Tracked?  velcro?  Amazon? Harbor Freight?  Thanks!

I still have the same garage as when I created this thread, but never pulled the trigger on a screen. It would be a nice thing to have though. 

Funny, i ordered one yesterday, should deliver tomorrow. I cook in my garage and im tired of the poo flies coming in. Just a cheap one. Velcro holds it up. Like 59$ on amazon. 

I got mine a few years ago online from Home Depot. Velcro, but the screen has zippers and you roll it up when you need to move something in and out. They're worth it for me, my shop has 16' doors on both ends so it's a nice environment with doors open and screens in place.
