Goofy(?) question: I'm having a buddy's dad build me two guitars. He's working on the bodies and the last missing piece is the trem. I'm doing Floyd's on both, but having a hard time figuring out what I need. I've sent two emails to Floyd Rose, and no response...and their listed phone# is disconnected.
So here's the deal: I have two necks. One is a Charvel Fusion neck. Already has locking nut. 24 3/4" scale. The original trem was a Jackson JT-590 Floyd licensed. It would SEEM like swapping an Original Floyd Rose wouldn't be an issue, as the bodies are being built from scratch, but reading here, it looks like there is a possibility of intonation issues...but that's using a guitar that's not being built from scratch (dig?)

The second neck is a Warmoth, also, already with locking nut. They sell original floyds with their bodies/necks, so I don't see it being an issue.
Any thoughts? I don't want to drop $400 on these things only to find out I should've purchased something else. The nut width/scale/etc, shouldn't matter, right?
If you are scratch building then the only intonation issues would be caused by misplacement of the trem.

Correct. Finger board radius can but IIRC a floyd is adjustable in that respect. Bridge spacing also effects pickup pole piece spacing.
Good luck. Start a build thread.
I have a floyd rose floating tremlo... do you need me to look at a particular piece of it closer?

I've ordered trem-spaced pickups. Hopefully Allan (the guy building them) will know what to do re: trem placement. Thanks for the help. I just didn't know if fretboard/nut width would affect which trem to buy, or if the saddles are all spaced the same (does that make sense?)
nut spacing could be an issue depending on the neck width measurements and the trem that you end up going with,
but I believe locking nuts are sold in different sizes (R4 sticks out in my head as one of the available designations, I'm pretty sure it's has to do with the string spacing that's cut into it).
I replaced trems on a few of my guitars (a Strat HM and a few Ibanez) with the $180 Floyd Rose Originals,
(the more expensive ones weren't justifiable to me, and the cheaper ones supposedly use softer metal that doesn't hold up too well, in various ways).
The pickup pole spacing may be a consideration as well,
in relation to neck/nut/bridge saddle widths/spacing.
I know that on my Strat, I was replacing a Kahler Spyder, and we had to re-drill holes for the pivot posts (years ago).
On the Ibanez guitars, the Floyd original used the same pivot stud spacing, I just replaced the actual studs with the ones that came with the Floyd since the LoTRS studs seem to get cut through by the trem knife edges and snap over time.
I would think that unless you have an unusually narrow neck, where your high E might 'fret-out'....
you would probably be fine, provided the neck is nice and straight, and the trem bridge is dead centered relative to the center line of the neck.
I have had a few cheapo guitars where the nut was slightly offset, the neck was funny, the frets were beveled too far in, or the trem bridge wasn't perfectly centered,
and as a result the high and low E strings would fret-out, which is super annoying.
Good luck ! :)
Both necks already have locking nuts. The Charvel neck shouldn't be a problem, as you can replace the Jackson Floyd with a Floyd Original. The Warmoth might be a wildcard, as you can order them for either a Floyd or Schaller. I'm having homeboy measure each nut (huh-huh) for me, as I'll probably order the trems brand new, and they come with a nut. If something goes awry, it's possible that we could just swap out the nut if necessary.
EDIT: Seems as though all the locking nuts sold on Warmoth's site are "Floyd Rose - made by Schaller" anyway.
It might just be a matter of getting the right nut then, I think R3 and R4 are the common ones.

Yeah. Both nuts are 1 5/8," so it's a toss-up. Both already have floyd nuts, so it shouldn't matter, but I ordered R3's in the interest of erring on the side of caution.
