Some times, things are just meant to be. I've intended for years to get a small utility trailer for hauling E36 M3 and filling with camping gear to make the car less crowded on camp trips. Well in a couple of weeks I'm picking up a load of roses and small trees so I decided yesterday that it was the day. I'd looked around previously and decided the best bet was one of those small trailers kits from Harbor Freight and build a box to go on it. So I went up to Harbor Freight yesterday afternoon to spend my hard eared $200 on one of thee. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=42708 I was planning to bolt it together then swap a 6 pack to get someone to weld up all the corner joints for strength. When I get there I find it's on sale for $180. Cool!

But then it get's better. I find this one http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=2948 is for sale for $300 not $350 and already has nice galvanized sides and drop down tailgate meaning I don't have to build a box. Another advantage of this trailer is that the tongue is longer, it has some triangulation and it's higher capacity too. Awesome, I'll take one! So I'm in line at the check out and the guy ahead of me hands me a spare 20% off voucher! So now it's $254 including tax out the door!! I'm one happy guy. I comes flat packed and fits inside a Mercury Mariner (Escape). Once I get it home it get's better still! I take off the wood floor and to find that the frame is already welded together so I don't even need to do that!!. A quick trip to Murray's (Man that place has gone down hill since O'reilly's took over) for some undercoat for the floor and to Home Depot for some extra washers and some crush tubes to improve some bolted joints and I'm well under way.

Sometimes a purchase just seems meant to be and I come away ridiculously happy, this is one of those times :)

I got a similar deal with my HF 4x4. It was on sale, I had a coupon AND I had some money leftover from a return.

To anybody who has an imported trailer (and I have thought about buying one myself), please take a close look at the welds on the tailgate pivots.

Last year, my WRX got hit by a tailgate off a two month old trailer that was hauling a pair of dirtbikes. I thought it was coming through my windshield to take my head off. Fortunately, it just shaved the driver's side mirror off the door. Very scary. The other driver didn't seem too concerned; he just said, "Hey, don't worry, I have insurance".

I took a close look at the trailer and everything else looked pretty good, but the welds that the rear gate pivoted on cracked and failed after minimal use and a few bumpy roads.

Same with my folding 4 x 8, it was 329 with the twelve inch wheels. On sale for 299 on line. Print the coupon, and when I get there the have it missmarked at 279. Plus, I have a 25 perecent off new years day coupon, and a 50 dollar gift card from my grandpa! In the end the whole thing cost me about 180 bucks!

This is the smaller HF trailer, 48x42 or whatever, cut down and welded:

Here it is all finished:

It was on sale plus the 20% off coupon. I think I was out the door for like $145. Tax at the tax office.

They are surprisingly good trailers. Mine is over 10 years old, and going strong. It's been used hard and long. Actually wore the tires and the wheel bearings out.
