I-89 is America's Autobahn. Light traffic, two Staties. However, if you really want the Vermont experience, just drive VT 100 for as much of the trip as you can.

Beg to differ. And with the construction near Waterbury you will cause or be in a crash.

Don't come to our state and be an ass.

Okay so I'm not up on the latest I-89 construction. Thanks for the update. What did I write that brought on the rest of your comment?

Your statement, "Americas autobahn" implies high speed.

The speed limit in Vermont is 65 mph. Does anyone here think 75 mph is excessive? It's enough to get you a ticket, though. Ironically, if I'm driving 75 through Vermont, I'll get passed a million times, mostly by cars with Vermont plates.

I'll chalk it up to vwcorvette having a bad day.

My comment about "America's Autobahn" has more to do with the road itself rather than speed. In a large part of our country, the Interstate Highway System can be interminable stretches of straight road with a lot of mall culture. I-89 through Vermont has a different relationship with the land as it winds around hills and plunges into picturesque valleys. It rolls through beautiful towns and just has a flow to it like my vision of the Autobahn (at least as I've seen it in pictures). Compared to much of the rest of the system, it's relatively lightly traveled and a beautiful drive.

Okay. I can accept this. I retract my statement. Been too many people clocked over 90 the last few weeks. Teaching high school DE makes me touchy. Continue with great comments about Vermont.

I-89 is the only place in Vermont that you can legally drive over 50 mph.

I drive the part between Burlington and St. Albans a couple times a year.

I drive it like any other interstate and find the speeders about the same.

Nothing really different.

Just got back from VT today. Thanks for all your suggestions guys. I had a blast and the timing couldn't have been more perfect, with weather in the mid 60's the whole week. Foliage was in full color change also.

Made it to the Longtrail Brewery, Woodchuck Cidery, Otter Creek Brewery, and the Drop-In Brewing Company. Some good brews but everybody is all gaga still with IPA's and hops out their tookus. I prefer a good stout or malty ale, so if you do also, you'll find the selection a bit lacking at most of these joints. Woodchuck Cidery was awesome though, and I couldn't find one thing I didn't like there.

Went by Crowley Cheese which was featured in an episode of Dirty Jobs, got to see them make the cheese by hand, and got some really good samples and cheeses to take home. Highly recommended.

On the lodging side I used AirBnB.com to find a place up there, worked out great, it was the first time I used their service and I highly recommend it. The price was way less than any hotel in the area would have charged, and we got to meet other guests from all over, a couple Aussies and a German chic.

Oh and don't trust the rental car mechanics with your lives. We rented a 2015 Corolla with 13k on the clock, it started making a weird noise about 2 days into the vaca and got worse and worse, I thought at first it was a rock or something in the tread, then I decided to pull the wheel cover off and found and the thing was missing 3 out of 5 lug nuts on the front passenger wheel. I pulled a couple off 2 other wheels to make 4 out 5 on three of the wheels, better than losing a wheel and going down a ravine. Rental place refunded 2/3's of the price for their eff up.
