If I go flush with the front crossbar, that would work pretty well. If I leave the lumber proud of the front, I would want something that wraps.
I did find some of the bathroom partition head bars for $30. That's not bad.

The lightest board in the bunch I bought is 13 lbs. The wettest/heaviest board is 18 lbs. I need 8 or 9 to deck it, so let's say they all dry out to an average of 14 lbs. That's 125 lbs, plus a bunch of 1/4" bolts and tee nuts to secure them. SVreX is probably not far off his 200 lb estimate. I would guess 150 lbs. Plus, the rack itself isn't a featherweight.
I'm now researching honeycomb panels. Not really keen on all that epoxy and fiberglass work, but it might be a solution.

It is a thought. I searched high and low for something I could put up there that was light and rigid. All I really came up with was structural foam or hexcore, laminated with epoxy/glass, but that would end up costing two arms and three legs.
I don't know man. Those giant family room sized lake "float mats" might work great laid over some wire mesh.

Oooooh.... now we're talking
Whitey won. I got some headrail and powdercoated it to match.
I opened the package of stainless flathead 1/4" bolts to finish putting the boards on only to find they sent 2.5" bolts instead of 1.25" like I ordered. Grrr.
