My boss is a hardass.

He's constantly on my ass, takes half my money and berkeleys my wife.

I'm self-employed.

From what I see there are 2 reasons people jump jobs: 1. MONEY and 2. they can't get along with a coworker/coworkers. So, if you're being paid well to spend part of your day with people that don't suck you're doing pretty well! Bonus if your commute doesn't suck either. I think I hate my job on a weekly basis, and then I realize that I've got it pretty good: decent pay, easy commute and the people aren't all bad.

it's not that I do not get along with my co-workers.. it's that half of them are extremely lazy and are only there for the paycheque. Other wise I love my job, the commute is 15 minutes on a bad day, and I cannot complain about the money. If I decide to hustle and work more than just my full time gig, I can get myself into 6 figures

Objectively my job is pretty good. Money is decent, people are decent and it's fulfilling to feel like the work I do is important to the company, and the work the company does makes a real impact on people's lives.

But it is and will always be work. I'm ok with that. I wouldn't mind a better commute though, some days it actually makes me crazy.

At least you get to berkeley the co-owner. That's job security.

It's dealing with the general public that makes me want to punch babies. The job itself is not bad.

15 mile/ 25 min. easy commute √. Good wage for this BFE county √. Boredom is not an issue, plenty to stay busy w/ if so inclined √. Maintaining sanity can be a chore tho.

Gone are the days of beating my head against the wall over the most basics of plant maintenance. 34 years in plant maintenance and nobody will listen to me cuz they always done it this way. OK, we'll do it your way. I do what I'm told anymore and collect a paycheck, that's it.

My job is slowly getting worse. Problem I have is I do nothing like anyone I work with on my direct team. I support multiple groups within the company and most of them are under completely different leadership so there is a lot of political bs too. I'll probably find something new here in the next 3-6 months.

Just the other day I was wondering about putting shock collars on people? Does this qualify?

I've been with the same company for 16 years now. I worked my way into management, then back on the tools when I was offered the opportunity to cut my commute from just over an hour on major highways to just over 20 minutes on country roads. I make great money, have no responsibility, zero accountability, work with a pretty good group of guys, and float around pretty much unsupervised most of the time. Some weeks I do as little as a few hours work, and most not a lot more. I have become completely numb to the ineffectiveness of the bumbling idiots that run the place. I was going to retire in two years, but I don't think I can leave this.

It's a little more complicated than that.

The manager that can't manage is building an empire. The planner that can't plan schedules work with with no rhyme or reason, and often in such a way that we couldn't possibly do it, even if we wanted. The supervisors that don't supervise have five guys per shift and can't keep track of them. And surprisingly, the equipment we maintain (at least the newer stuff) generally runs fairly well. When a serious breakdown occurs, they call in contractors.

Great example: There are three of my trade per shift. Two were scheduled for a 12 hr PM on Friday. The same two were also scheduled for 8 hrs forklift training (that is at least two years overdue) on the same day. Supervisors were warned of this conflict by us three days before. Work cell goes down at 6:30 am for PM. Trades guys start, but leave for training at 8 am. Entire work cell stays down until 4 pm when trades guys return and put the covers back on, and nobody was notified. The work cell did not run until this afternoon.

I was the lone guy taking calls on Friday, and did two hrs work all day. I will make six figures this year
