You could buy a Pantera at your local Mercury Dealership.
It was not a rebadged Ford.
I think the years were 1970-1974

I think the Prius looks like a shoe, but that doesnt mean it was made by Nike.
Eclipses share parts with lots of cars, but not with Cougars. I have honestly never heard someone make that ASSumption before, and I have heard all sorts of stupid comments about Eclipses.
A Mercury is just a Ford that was built with lock washers.

Hey, he was just making an observation, and they do look a lot alike in many ways, no need to be a DICKerson about it.

Now we're really stretching... you could buy an Opel GT at your Buick dealer... does that make it a Buick?
Strangely enough, that was the same time period (68-72)
Mercury did offer a pickup, called the M-100 as a sort of "companion" to the Ford F-100. It even had a panel van version, just like Ford. For some reason the Mercury trucks were only ever offered new in Canada. Apparently, the Canadian market had several towns where there were no Ford dealers, but there were Mercury dealers and being as Canada was/is heavily agricultural, a Ford or Mercury truck dealership had to be available. When you find a M-100 on E-Bay, you will notice it's almost indistinguishable from an F-100.

It was a ground up redesign by Ford Australia, by an engineer by the name of Chell who was originally an Englishman, but the number crunchers won and instead of his intended RWD MX5 competitor we got a reskined Mazda 323. I worked with Mr Chell's son and traveled extensively in Ford Australia fleet vehicles for a few years. He was devastated by what was the result
I remember the original show car the Capri derived from. Barchetta, they called it. At that point, it still looked nice and seemed fairly desirable. Something went awry afterward.
For the Cougar, exactly which 2 door Mondeo coupe did they just lift off the grill?
And the Capri- which 2 seat FWD/AWD Mazda convertable did they do the same with?
Just because its the same platform does not mean it's not unique, and takes a lot of engineering to make.
By this definition, Acura has never made a unique car outside of the NSX, since they are all derivatives of Hondas.
Which Mercedes was re-badged the Pacifica?
