Because a ridiculous amount of the time I get screwed. Tried to get an SC 400 oil pan on club Lexus. Guy says he has one. We settled on a price and I sent him money on PayPal. Like a dumbass I sent it "friends and family" to save 3 percent and now over a month later no oil pan and the guy won't respond. shiny happy person.
never deal with people who can't accept the 3% as a cost of doing business.
Well I may have jumped the gun. TBD. The guy finally got back to me and said that the package got bounced back and asked for a different address to send it to.

I consider it a cost of buying online...if seller wont pay the fee, when i send the money i'll add the 3% myself and put it through as a purchase. This way the seller gets their money and i have a means of recourse if it doesnt show up. Then they at least have to mail a box containing something to my official paypal address if they want to rip me off.

Not to discourage you, but I don't much believe that. I'd be somewhere between taking the risk of offending him and asking for some proof, and just writing it off and moving on.
Probably the worst screwing I took from a customer on Ebay (aside from Ebay themselves acting as retarded enforcers and stealing from me) was from a guy who was happy to provide screen prints of him "doing things to help me" until the cows came home. Military email address. Too much time and just screwing with people.
there used to be a military guy on the camaro forum that would troll everyone, and try to get better deals by telling people he's on a military salary and he needs the stuff for his car, then turn around and ebay it by lying about it. he got me to send him a set of green seat belts from my 71 caprice in trade for a couple camaro parts. he only sent one, and it was not as promised, and the other he said "i realized what i could get for it on ebay so too bad" - he dyed the seatbelts in his washer and painted the buckles black and listed them as original 1971 camaro seatbelts on ebay a week later. he finally got a bad reputation, but he's probably still out there screwing people over and lying about stuff, all from his military email address.

If someone is dumb enough to send me their address, and screw me over, you best be assured they will receive a package filled with soumething nasty.

Dildos. In his name (inside the box) but to the neighboring address.
Mailing dildos to people is the new thing.
I have actually only had one bad experience and that was a turbo I got that was supposed to be "like new" when in fact it had so much bearing play that the blades were bouncing off the housing. The guy I got it from took forever to refund my $$$$$ and did it in $20 payments over 6 months. I ended up loosing about $50 or so it was just the agervation of chasing it and dealing with the BS ebay resolution service.
Having been a seller on Ebay I have been jacked as well by people saying what they got was defective and shipping back the broken part that they are replacing with the one they got from me. I started marking everything I sold on Ebay and photoing it but I eventually got tired of the Ebay BS and just worked harder at my day job.
I have to say selling stuff online is where I get peeved. No matter what you are selling, people just hound you with stupid offers. Then get angry when you won't sell to them for some crazy price. Twice as annoying when they come by, look at it, say they will take it, but only brought x amount under the asking price.
These types are the reason that, on most sites, I end up listing things for 50 to 100 bucks more than I want to sell it for just to get a reasonable sum for my stuff. It is almost not worth the aggravation of selling stuff.
I also have had the great experience of selling a car to have it stripped and dumped in the street, towed, then the tow company coming after me for THOUSANDS in fees as the car only made 50 at auction. Luckily I sent in the release of liability, but still had to fight the collection agency.
I hate unscrupulous people.
