I stay in my share of hotels. I average a week a month away from home for work. The gubment does put me up in nice digs. Just spent a couple days in the Hilton-Hawaiian Gardens in Honolulu, Hawaii last week. The first night is usually restless for me but after that not bad. Guess my age is catching up with me. Have membership cards to all the major chains. If I can drive there in one day or less, I do. If not, I fly. Eating out when traveling is hard on the midriff though.

Oh Lesley, on the road to Anchorage there will be many places that rent beds in a house and you eat meals with the family. Kinda like bed and breakfast. Some places have a couple large rooms with several bunkbeds in each and a community/shared bathroom. But once you get to Anchorage, all the major chains are there.Beautiful there this time of year.
Lived in Fairbanks for a few years and spent time Anchorage. Flew helicopters all over that state. Including north of the state, in the winter.

I have periods that are travel-intensive and religiously use tripadvisor.com to see what's what with my lodging options. If the choices are the usual 1/2 dozen business travel chains I go for Hampton Inns if the one available is recently built or renovated.

Unlike most of y'all I ~love~ the loud ass HVAC systems and it's a huge detriment if it can't be set to leave the fan on loud. I've got a nice case of tinnitus as a life long reminder of a former tenure as a rock drummer and always sleep w/ a fan on for background/white noise.

Good point... New trumps just about everything. Hotels do not age gracefully.

Thanks wlkelly3 - the arrangements will be made for us, it's a driving event. Looking at the itinerary there's a couple of the standard Marriott and Best Westerns, but most intriguing is a "Deadhorse Camp" hotel. Hmmm.

I've encountered wee unwanted bedmates before. Days passed before my skin stopped twitching.
