I was curious if anyone else has had to deal with this. I don't want to be too graphic, but if you know what a "sitz bath" is, you know what surgery I'm about to have.

3-4 week initial recovery, thankfully it's between my fiance's travel for work and our short term disability will ensure I have full paychecks while I'm recovering.

Obviously it sounds like it's going to be terrible but I'm also nervous, because I've never been under general anesthesia. My smart ass dad, who has had multiple surgeries for different things said, "Don't worry about it. You'll wake up and if you don't, you won't know anyway."

I have not experienced that one. Follow your doctors advice.  If you are normally firmer, make sure you take a stool softener regularly.

Good luck.

Having gone through multiple surgeries and procedures that required me to be either under a general, or just plain knocked out, I can say that after a few of these I realized how true this is.

Getting knocked out is the easiest part.  Pay attention to the presurgery diet, possibly a prep enema and stick with yogurt and such after.  Not gonna be fun cranking up the old pipes post surgery.

I am a severe insomniac, so the anesthesia part is something I look forward to. Falling asleep easily in a few seconds? Sign me up!

For the rest, I am not familiar with that exact surgery, but I can say 2 things. First, my ex-wife needed a sitz bath after delivering our daughter, "Tearing" was not something I was warned about beforehand and holy crap women are tougher than men by 1000%.

Second, when I had my appendix out, it was major surgery due to some complications, and my system took a while to get going again. Be warned that hospitals are very fond of laxatives that you do not swallow.

Got some good answers last time

Best things to do are really to not over think it (I know much easier said than done), and just follow the recommend pre and Post surgery diets. It's a nice nap, expect to be dry when you come too and maybe in limited fluids.

Start on a regiment of stool softeners a few days prior to surgery. Post surgery, most experience constipation and that's not something you will want to occur. Starting a week ahead will ease what happens following the procedure quite a bit.

Good Luck.

I have also been suffering with insomnia the better part of this year. But I don't want to get on medication....I already take an insane amount of anti-allergy stuff. And take blood pressure meds.

Once I get past this surgery, my doc got me a scrip for Zepbound to help me get off the weight more quickly since I also have to have a surgery for an umbilical hernia. That one I'm not too worried about, past the anesthesia thing. The one I have in a few weeks, if it isn't obvious yet, it's a hemorrhoid-ectomy.  So I'm really dreading that.

If you can get the rubber band(s) procedure instead, do that. They're not bad.

And to all of you who are sitting on the toilet reading this right now. Get the berkeley up before you bust that valve like the OP did. You can get away with that kind of madness in your teens and 20's but you will eventually learn one way or another.

We already did two rounds of rubber band ligation. It didn't fix the big issue. Trust me, the surgeon and myself were trying to avoid surgery if we could.

He had already told me "It's easy for me, it's going to be painful for you"
